Question about Kenmore 44102 Front Load Washer
My 5 yr Kenmore front load washer started to squeel during spin cycle. When I removed clothes some were sopping wet and others were still dry. I removed the back off unit and found belt was off. I ordered a new one from Sears and put it on but after spinning the drum by hand a few times the belt goes off kilter and slides off the pulleys. There is a sealed unit inside and the belt is the only thing I can access. I'm a single Mom and try to be handy but I'm lost. I called a repair man who asked if I've been using the special soap? I have always just used half the amount of soap as this is what salesman instructed me to do. The repairman said I should probably throw it to the curb but I can't believe that is necessary. Any suggestions? I'm tired of laundry mats already! Thanks
Couple of things to look at: If your machine follows the normal pattern, the motor spindle will have ridges on it, and will be wider than the pulley on the drum. The belt will walk across the drum pulley until it is perpendicular to the spindle - and consequently if the belt is on the wrong bit of the spindle, it will fall off the edge of the pulley. If this is what is happening, the solution is simply to refit the belt further across the spindle. While you're at it, have a quick look at the motor spindle to check it's all there. I had one once where the end had snapped off. If that doesn't work, grab hold of opposite sides of the drum pulley and try to rock it from side to side. Two things to look for while doing this: One is failure of the drum bearings (a fairly big job). The other is failure of one of the spokes on the pulley (usually where it meets the hub). Fitting a new pulley wheel isn't too difficult provided you can get the nut that holds it on undone. Not sure I approve of your repairman though. A.
