Omnipage 16 is not scanning from Microsoft Word with HP Photosmar
I have tried everything to get drivers, or re-install both Omnipage 16 and the HP Photosmart 5180 All-in-One Printer...Instead of getting an instant scan when I need it I get a window (load files) Look in- My Documents and lists those files but no scan, what am I missing? I have even gone as far as to reload the entire Windows program with no result...is there a patch, a driver, a fix, a website, an adjustment I must make, what? After getting nuance on the phone for three hours and having them run me around and do nothing I am beginning to think that they just stole my money and do not give a rip...
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

It depends on if you have the full software installed. The MP160 documentation indicates it came wth ScanSoft OmniPage SE. Open MP Navigator and choose this program, you can output the scan as a text file. If you did a custom install, you may or may not have installed the program. If you omitted the program, do a new custom install. OmniPage is an OCR program and will output to a number of formats (you will choose File, Save as) after scanning. Word can import RTF and most other choices as well as .doc files.
If you don't have the software disc, the software can be obtained from this URL: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=13368
Alternatively, there is a free OCR program (simpleOCR.com) that will do the same thing. However it doesn't handle text in columns (newspaper or magazines) very well.
Were you able to install the correct driver for your OS? Usually the scanner application can be found in the list of Programs >> HP Photosmar C7250. If what you are referring to is the icon on your System Tray (lower right corner), you can always add an icon there by right clicking the blank space in your system tray and choose properties. On the taskbar tab, click on Customize, look for the icon for your scanner, click for the behavior and from the drop down button, choose "Always show".
Try to scan also by pressing the scan button in your printer and press start to initiate a scan.
Actually, Omnipage should be included on the CD that came with the unit. If (and I mean if) scangear installs correctly AND locates your 4370dn on the network, it will install itself as a shim TWAIN driver. After the installation of Omnipage, you will need to do a scanner setup and identify the scangear shim as the scanner you intend to work with. After that, Omnipage should work just fine using your 4370dn on the network.
Word of warning: I've had a lot of trouble with scangear if it doesn't install correctly or locate your device on the network. For whatever reason, sometimes it just doesn't want to cooperate sometimes and seemingly nothing you do will convice it that your device is alive and well on the network (including continous ping to the device and/or opening the web interface while installing). This is particularly true for Win64.
I got this message too, before I installed an OCR program. It may be that you need to install one (or specify it, if you have one already). With my MP610, an installation disk was included that contained the OmniPage SE program for OCR. When I installed that on my computer, and told MP Navigator (another Canon-supplied program, that controls scanning) to use it as the "Open With" program for OCR, it worked.
You need to install an OCR application that translates the "picture" that the scanner takes into editable text (something like OmniPage).
I would think such a program was bundled with your G85, if that is not the case you should try to figure out what program was in use and doing that earlier, install it if you still have it.
