Touch screen does not work.

I purchased this unit three years ago and really love the sure direction and not getting lost. Is there something that I can do to fix the problem. Tommy Thompson

Re: touch screen does not work.

(1) Disconnect any external GPS antenna. (2) Do not turn on auto engine. (3) Turn off any other peripheral devices. (4) Simultaneusly hold down the PAGE and MENU buttons while turning on the 2620. A prompt box will appear asking if you really want to delete all user data. Touch the NO selection. Then turn off the 2620. (5) Simultaneously hold down MENU & ROUTE buttons while turning on the 2620. (6) A self-running diagnostic program will appear. Allow it to run for a couple of minutes; check to see that all parameters indicate "PASS" or other indication of being OK. If any parameter is not OK, make a note of it for potential communication to Garmin, then proceed with the following steps (7) Turn off the 2620. (8) Simultaneously hold down the PAGE, MENU & ROUTE buttons while turning on the 2620. A SCREEN CALIBRATION adjustment screen will apear. Quickly touch the points indicated as the calibration program runs. At the end of this procedure, the screen will display a window indicating that the calibration either "PASSED" or "FAILED." If it "PASSED," continue to steps (8)-(9). If it "FAILED," turn off the 2620 and repeat this step. If, after three calibrations attempts, each one is "FAILED," then also turn off the 2620 and proceed to steps (8)-(9). (8) Turn on the 2620. Press the "OK" button each time prompted to do so. Wait for maps to load and for the 2620 to initialize, acquire satellites, and display your position. (9) Press FIND button, then touch the right-hand vertical screen position adjustment to scroll screen display down to reveal WAYPOINT selection box. If unable to select WAYPOINT, or if attempting to do so only selects an adjacent box, then repeat step (7), and return to this step. (10) When various waypoint selections appear, attempt to scroll down to a selection not visible when the list of waypoints first appears, and select one of them. If still unable to select WAYPOINT box, unable to scroll screen down (or if trying to do so selects a stored waypoint instead), once again repeat step (7). If successful, then proceed to step (11). Also proceed to step (11) if you have repeat step (7) but then still can't select WAYPOINT, can't scroll down after selecting WAYPOINT, or can't select a particular stored WAYPOINT. (11) Press the upper-right hand "X" to close out the FIND screen or sub-screen within that function. If unable to close the screen, press the PAGE button. (12) Press FIND button, and when selection screen appears, touch ADDRESS. On next screen, touch the STATE line and touch the ENTER A CITY in (name of state). When keyboard appears on screen, use it to enter your city, then touch OK. Continue this procedure to enter your house number and street name, then press "OK." If all screen keyboard keys not responding, repeat step (7), turn the 2620 off and on again, wait for it to initialize, and then attempt this step again. (13) Repeat this procedure several times if not initially successful. By the second or third run-through, the touch screen should respond fully and accurately. If, after many runs through this procedure, the touch screen still will not respond, the screen sensor probably will need to be replaced ($255). The foregoing procedure brought my touch screen back to life last evening, much to my delight. Do not be too concerned if the SCREEN CALIBRATION step does nto produce a "PASS;" on my third calibration attempt it produced a PASS but all of the touch screen points still had not returned to functionality. I was unable to get a PASS during the screen calibration step after that, but the many repetitions apparently nonetheless made the difference, as by patiently following the above prcoess for five cycles, full screen functionality was restored.

Re: touch screen does not work.

I'm so excited. My screen finally works again!!!!!
I looked at the long answer by Woofer, and fooled around a little bit, and my calibration finally worked. It took me a long time of trial and error. My menu/Route button is one and the same. So I used Menu and Find instead. It worked I think. I had to do the first 8 eps like 5 times, and then kept checking calibration before I got it to say Calibration Complete.
Also I never got the calibration screen to come up like he says. I never went past step 8.
Thansk!! Good Luck!!

I have a SGX and have lost the antenna cover. Can I find a replacement?

Stay AWAY from the SGX. The quality control is really poor. I know of three other users having the same problem, the antenna cover falls off and the unit does not get satelite reception. It becomes a piece of junk. Once that unit got replaced, in less than 5 months, the rubber covering the knob that allows you to select items had a tear and now the unit is no longer waterproof. This is not covered under warranty and they want you to pay $89.95 for a replacement. I am done with SkyCaddie. I have just purchased the new Garmin G6, awesome device, no annual fees, long battery life and touch screen enabled.

I cannot program anything into directions because the screen does not bring up the number or letter when you touch it, it brings up the letter/number to the left of it. You cannot get the numbers/letters...

The problem is the screen needs to be calibrated, however this sometimes doesn't work if the touch screen is failing. I saw a lengthy procedure posted here in a different solution I have yet to try. But for the calibration you will go to menu - > display -> press FIND and follow the directions on screen. If calibration fails repeat, or find the other lengthy instructions here and try those. Several people claim they have worked, again, I haven't tried them. Another option is to purchase a remote for the unit. I have one and use it for mine because my screen totally failed. I have since replaced the screen with a junk unit I purchased on EBay but prefer the remote over the touch screen for most things. Remotes are about $30 bucks. If you're lucky you might be able to find a 2610 that includes a remote for around $50 and pick up an extra set of accessories. Good luck and post back if you have any other questions.

How do i update maps on my model c330 purchased in2006

The only way is to purchase them is directly from Garmin.

Being that you have not updated the maps you will pay a penalty as they want people to update each year that a update becomes available.

Updates will probably run you $99 to $150 based on your software being 2-3 updates behind.

Being that the unit is 3-4 years old, I would not recommend investing $100 to update the software.

Vast improvements have been made to screen image quality, touch screen input technology as well as to the GPS receiver itself. Improvements to receiver sensitivity and "text to speech" technology alone merit an upgrade. I would instead recommend shopping around for a new unit as there are some incredible deals out there.

Magellan makes a roadmate 1430 or 1470 with nice large touch screens that run under $150. Garmin has a few models in that price range as well, try to get something with a 4.3" or larger touchscreen.

Hope that helps

My tomtom is frozen on the screen with the car it comes on goes to that screen and thats it

could be a hardware issue or a firmware issue.

first check their website for an updated firmware
download it and run it
connect your gps and see what happens

if that doesn't do it something has gone wrong internally most gps manufacturers have a flat rate repair. Unfortunately that flat rate lets say $120 doesn't make financial sense They may fix it for $120 but they won't update maps replace the battery etc..

for $150 to $199 you can get a really nice unit from Garmin, Magellan or tomtom those are the big three heavyweight players in the industry.

Coincidentally I recently purchased a big screen from Walmart and they sell extended warranties what caught me off guard was how cheap they were compared to those from Best buy and other company.

Being that products such as GPS are not only fragile but become outdated due to new maps their "life expectancy" really is no more than 3-5 years might make sense to pay $20 for a 3 year warranty especially since ANY parts they would have to order are going to cost them more than the original price of the unit on my son's video gaem they just gave me my money back and I bought a new one.

hope that helps

Touch screen does not respond

Step 1. Turn your Nuvi unit off, remove any SD cards from the SD card slot and make sure that the unit is not plugged into any computer.
Step 2. Place a fingertip on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen and keep it there while turning the unit on, a prompt should read " Do you really want to start in maintenance mode?"
Step 3. Select the yes button.
Step 4. Enter your PIN if enabled.
Step 5. Main Maintenance Mode screen should have 4 selections:
System information
View Diagnostics
Clear User data
Clear Waypoints
Step 6. After some selections the unit should reboot and you check to verify unit after rebooting.

Screen continues to go out, touch it ,it reappears, every 20 second

Hello megbert, I own a TomTom also. I have listed the procedures from TomTom Home and hope this will work. First try a soft reset (Reset button is located at the bottom of the TomTom device next to where the DC plug plugs in). Make sure your batteries are fully charged up or the USB cord is plugged in.

If your device is not starting up properly, follow the steps below:
  1. Soft reset your device. *

  2. If your device still does not start up, then reinstall the TomTom application using HOME
If you have backed up your TomTom to your computer, then you can reinstall the TomTom application from your backed up data. *    In rare cases, your TomTom device may not start correctly or may stop responding. If this happens, try resetting your device. A reset does not delete any data.

Touch screen issues

Has the unit ever been really wet or is there a hole in the touch screen foil? If not have you ever done a cold reset?
. First turn the unit OFF, then HOLD your thumb on the furthest bottom right hand corner of the screen, push as far into the corner as you can on the screen itself. While holding your thumb/finger on the screen press and hold the POWER ON button until you see the ZUMO splash screen, once the splash screen is up you can release the power, but continue to hold your thumb in the right corner of the screen for another 5 - 10 seconds, you should see a window that pops up and asks "Do you really want to erase all user data?", make sure to answer YES to this window, if you don't see this window, then turn unit OFF and try the above instructions again, ensuring your thumb is in the furthest portion of the bottom right hand corner of the touch screen.
