1) the gas in the refrigerator never has to be refilled, it is a sealed system. some one ripped you off. 2)if the thermostat is bad they are easy to replace. take the model # and bring it to your local parts house. sears now repairs all brands so if you have no parts house go to sears repair center. 3)you say the thermostat doesn't shut off. does the milk or soda in the refrigerator section freeze? get a food thermometer and leave it in a glass of water check the temp. of the water after an hour or two it should read 37- 42 degrees.if it is colder than that what setting is the thermometer set at, it should be on the energy efficient setting or the middle of the range.. if after all these minor checks, make sure your doors are closing properly and the light is going off. you may have a door adjustment problem. if allthese tests are ok then get a new thermostat, but remember all parts are not returnable so make sure you get the part you need. self help books are available at your local library check one out!

I have a Fridgeadaire MTRF322 F/F - 7 yr old. The thermostat in the fridge clicks in when I turn to 7. I then turn down to 3 - 4 as per instructions. The fridge gets cold, even ices on the back but then...

While on holiday, leave it on 7. When you get back, get the thermostat changed, but only after checking the following:
Condenser grille clear and clean, all fans working ok, defrost freezer and recheck fridge, check door seals properly, try setting at 5 or 6 and see if the freezer is better able to hold temperature

Freezer works fine, fridge compartment cools but has stopped cooling as good and has recently stopped cooling. did a manuel defrost on fridge and freezer worked fine afterwards, now doing the same thing...

Oncce the fridge was shut off and left for a while the cooling had come back . If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
If after about 6 hours you observe cooling it is possible that the defrost timer is faulty.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
replace the defrost timer, heater or thermostat one you have confirmed to eliminate one by one.

The alarm goes off by itself and the fridge will stop working. switch it off for two to three days and it work again for few days

switch fridge off and defrost it 24hrs. inside fridge remove panel and locate the flap on the thermostat. put something behind it to jar it open about half inch. restart fridge and see if it cures problem. if it does fridge thermostat requires replacing. jaring the flap open is only a temporary fix to diagnose problem. but i did mine 4 months ago and still fine

hi. thanks for the question. leaving the door open ,would let a lot of moisture to enter the freezer, and cause it to frost up. to clear frost. cut power to fridge, open the doors .,let thaw over nite clean up the water mess. dry the inside of fridge & freezer turn power on good to go. to stop the door from being left open .lift the legs under the front so the fridge has more weight, and it will close by self . no more doors left open. thanks the appliance doc

Fridge not getting cold

Hotfridge, you have an issue with automatic defrost... most likely located at the defrost terminator. Here are the steps to resolve the issue; First, go to your local appliance parts store and purchase a defrost thermostat. Part #WR50X55. It's a G.E. built part and will replace your bad one. UNPLUG YOU FRIDGE! You'll have to empty out your freezer compartment and remove the rear panel. Once this is done, you'll see the defrost thermostat physically mounted to the *evaporator. (*the aluminum coil assy. that's all iced up.) It looks like the one you just bought. Remove it from the evaporator and cut the wires right at the thermostat, then discard it. Strip the newly cut wires exposing 1/2" of wire. Strip the wires back on the new one the same as with your newly stripped wires. Wire color does not matter here, just connect one wire of your new part to one of the wires in the freezer, then do the same with the other one. Now mount it (use the clip provided) back to the evaporator where the old one was located. Repair complete. Except that you'll need to completely defrost (melt) all that ice out of there before it'll cool properly again. Grab a hair dryer for this job. Do this before you replace the rear panel, it'll go quicker that way.
