Question about ASUS Eee PC 900 Notebook

1 Answer

ASUS 901 I have just taken delivery of an ASUS 901 and am having trouble pairing up with my main PC router. I start the unit up and click on to the 'wireless networks' area. Opens up the 'visible access position', left click on my broadband system to highlight (this showing a closed padlock) and press 'connect'. Comes up 'setting up interface', then 'pending' and then doesn't change from 'pending' and fails to open or do anything else. Opening up the 'pending' there is a load of double-dutch info that is over my head but does include 'error for wireless request - set frequency (8BO4 then Set failed on device raO -network is down and then loads more other data. Inadvertantly I may have entered a password which I remember but am unable to 'unlock' the security. Can you assist me to 'unlock' the system and just get me up and running with my wireless router - many thanks in advance. 07831 280 545

Ignore setting up the Wireless icon. Use the Network one to setup the Wireless too. As the Wireless icon won't recall the settings. Good luck!

On my daughters Asus Eee pc notebook 901/XP on start up the screen stays black and a flashing cursor in the top right though after several mins no change, how can i fix this.

It's possible that the disk-drive inside the computer has failed.
So, the copy of Windows stored on the disk-drive cannot be read, and Windows cannot start-up.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, for trouble-shooting (which may include replacing the disk-drive).

Is it still under warranty? (Was it purchased with a credit-card that automatically doubles the length of the warranty?)

I believe there are two nuts on each post. The first one locks up against the firewall and the second secures the speaker wire against the first nut. Tighten the lower nut snug against the enclosure.

Netbook is wirelessly connected, but can't browse web sites

Shouldn't have to do much. I bought my daughteran ASUS Eee netbook with XP on it and it immediately connected to my wireless. Shouldn't be anything special to the settings unless you have specified these in your network settings on the router. If everything is set to default on the router, you should be able to connect with ease. I would enable WEP security on the router though.

I have seen issues like this before , certain chipsets/drivers of wireless cards and routers just dont like each other.

We know your wireless card works just as we know your router works. Trick is to get them to play nice together. Unfortunately, there is no quick and easy way to do this, you will have to try different driver and firmware combos until you find one that works.

You can get dlink updates here
http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

And you can try these drivers here.
http://asus-drivers.blogspot.com/2009/01/asus-f3-f3jc-driver-download.html

One other thing you can try before messing around with drivers and firmware is changing the application you use for wireless. The default for your setup is probably Intel Proset. Try using the native Vista wireless manager and see if that does anything. to access that go to start , run , type in services.msc, scroll down to WLAN auto config. Double click on it and then click on start. If you still cant see your router, its time to start trying drivers and firmware.

on the asus in the tool bar right click the wireless icon then choose view wireless a netwrok should appear then choose connect
if no networks appear on same page click to refresh network list once you have a network then click to connect.
I think the problem is diue to interference as you said you live in an apartment.
