Hp dv-1041 issues with windows 7

I installed windows 7 on my hp laptop. it runs fine, the only issue is that when i put my laptop to sleep or hibernate and once it comes back one, there is an issue with function key as if it was pressed. if i click on the keys which have a second character associated with function key, they will show the second key as if function key is pressed while it is not. when i start, the problem goes away but putting it into hibernate or sleep creates this issue. i have updated drivers for keyboard which has not helped.

RE: "there is an issue with function key as if it was pressed. if i click on the keys which have a second character associated with function key, they will show the second key as if function key is pressed while it is not."

That is a faulty keyboard and must be replaced, it may also be the reason while the computer has problems when hybernating.

Your using a beta os. Disable hibernation and you should be fine. At this time there may not be a fix for that issue. You should send the issue report in to microsoft so they can look into it.

As I understand it, the windows 7 is still beta. Or have you pruchased a real copy of a fully working windows 7?

Its not a final product and is known to have bugs and problems.

This is a beta product, contact microsoft and let them know of the issue.

If you are looking for a working stable windows I would suggest windows XP or Vista.

Also check when the laptop screen is closed that noting is pressing the function key.

The Windows 7 Beta is a pre-release version of Windows 7, Microsoft's next client operating system.

Beta software is for testing so if you like testing software, microsoft hopes
you’ll try it out. By installing the Windows 7 Beta on your PC, you
help microsoft engineers find and fix bugs in the code before microsoft delivers the
    final version.

Beta software is not fully functional and will definitely have bugs and issues.

Did you have the problem on a earlyer version of windows? if not then the issue is with the beta.

    • Reinstall the keyboard in device manager, or disable and enable it.

After updating windows 7 through windows update on my hp dv 9820us, it does not even start and if sometime the system boots up it shows the lines on the diplay and hangs up.

Hi,

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Have you tried uninstalling the update you made? You might have installed service pack 1 of windows 7 and there are a lot of issue being reported because of that. Your's may be one.

Try uninstalling the update or do a system restore to a date when you haven't installed the update yet.

This document pertains to the HP TouchSmart tm2-1000 Notebook PC series.

The fingerprint reader login window is not detected when the notebook resumes from a Standby, Hibernate, or powered off state. Additionally, a password cannot be entered because the flashing login window defaults the cursor to the start of the entry field.

Download and Install Fingerprint Reader Driver

To resolve this issue, download and install the latest Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 .

Any use?

When I press the on button it will light up but my screen will not come on. Is it on sleep mode? How do I wake it up?

Here's the problem, my dear HP friend, HP made the DV series laptop haphazardly. I've read issues with this PC ranging anywhere from the video card crapping out to the computer not exiting from sleep mode. I have two HP computers and love them, but this is pretty inexcusable. There are SOOO many threads and forums about this issue on Google - hundreds of them, in fact - and none seem to have answers. The answers that are there are vague and there are too many different ones to choose from. I have the "sleep mode" issue start when I replaced the RAM from 2 gigs to 3 gigs. When I took the 3rd gig card out, whala - the issue stopped.
I guess my advice would simply be to never but a HP computer again - there's just so many weird little problems with it.

Windows 7 is designed for latest hardware and the Laptop you are using is quite an old. We will face compatibility issues.

I suggest you to run a Compatibility Advisor to know which Windows 7 version is compatible for your Notebook.

Advisor Tool
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/upgrade-advisor.aspx

Install the suggested version using an upgrade Disk. If you use retail version, you will face the driver compatibility issues.

All windows 7 driver will not available. But, you can use Vista driver for Windows 7 if it is installed using an upgrade disk

I just bought this hp laptop and noticed that it goes off just like that, after running for a while. What do I do?

First thing I would try would be to turn hibernation mode off. Could be it's going to sleep on you. If this is windows 7,
1. click your start button
2. click control panel
3. click hardware and sound
4. click power options
5. click change when computer sleeps (on the left)
6. put both to never using drop downs
7. save changes.

see if that helps. then just turn it off manually.
also might want to check with hp to see if there is a fix for your issue. good luck

This sounds like a Compatability issue with Windows 7, check with HP to make sure your machine is compatable. You may not be able to use windows 7 on your PC. Make sure the drivers you have downloaded are the correct ones and are listed for Windows 7, vista ones should work but may not. Xp ones will definately not work

Internet disconnection on hp dv 6500

When the internet connection goes down what does your network and sharing center say the status is? does it says access: local and internet? or does it say access: local only?
do any other pcs have this problem on your network?
if this is the only pc having this issue the best thing to do is contact Vista support while you are still under warranty so they can troubleshoot the issue further... more than likely simply need to update the drivers for the network connections... this is a known issue they have had in the past... its not your ISP if all other pcs are fine... its just one of the lovely side affects of Vista..
GOOD LUCK!!!
