Well, your not using it as far as you know, but when you installed your camera you installed some programs that came whit it, some of those programs is running in the background and occupied the camera, nothing wrong whit that, but you need to shut those programs down to realese the camera so you can use it whit msn.

First:
Look at the bottom to the left on your pc/laptop, see if there is any program that refering to your camera, if so, rightclick on the program and exit it.

Second:
Click on the "start" button down at the left, select "Run", type "msconfig" in the window and hit enter.
You will now see a new window, one of the flicks say "Autostart" select that one. You will now see all the programs that runs in the background, tick off all that refering to your webcam, that will make those programs to not automaticly start up when you start your PC/Laptop, press OK and restart you PC/Laptop.

Now your webcam is free and can be used in any programs you want.

Thanx for using FixYa!

If you find my answer helpfull, please dont forget to vote

Good luck to you

its the same on VISTA M8!:)

You use that "msconfig" on Vista as you use it on XP

Just click on the start button and you will find the "RUN" somewhere under "programs" in your Vista.

Find it, run it, and type "msconfig" as i told you before and follow my instructions in my first post.

If you have any questions, just ask me and i will try to guide you M8:)

    Good luck to you!

Connect Webcam
Test your webcam here by hitting "Allow" in the top window and checking for your webcam in the left hand panel

If it works reasonably well
Reboot webcam by disconnecting from USB for a few seconds.
Open WLM ( msn )
Click ( > ) Open menu > Tools > Audio and webcam setup - set up audio by dedicating default mic and testing > Next - make your webcam default and adjust settings > Finish

Microsoft vx-3000 won't work on MSN!!

What you can do is click the Sound Icon beside the Nudge Button. It might bring up a window titled "Set up Audio and Video - Speaker/Microphone or Speakerphone" the Microsoft Vx-3000 has a microphone built in, so you can change your audio settings to "Microsoft Vx-3000" , then click next. The next one is Webcam. You can change the default settings to Microsot vx-3000.

If you've tried changing your settings for MSN before, then I'm not sure. This is the clever way for me :P

Can't use my microsoft lifecam vx 600 on msn

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud
