Question about GE JES1456 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Not working at all

This morning the microwave was making all sorts of beeps. They were long and loud like an alarm clock. My daughter and I not realizing it was the microwave were looking all over the house for the source of the noise. If the screen was flashing a message, we missed it. Anyhow, now it is completely dead. There is no screen, no light when you open the door...nothing. I have unplugged it and plugged it back in several times. What happened? Have four kids one of which is a baby so I need the microwave.

Thanks

it tuned back on all by itself...it was warm inside so perhaps baby hit something and it just overheated???? THink it is working the clock screen was just flashign and thanks to the online manual...I now know how to lock the baby out of it just in case she was the one pushing buttons.

Still wondering what happened if someone knows....

I would suspect you have a shorting membrane keypad.

This can cause it to come on by itself, and running it empty will cause it to overheat, then the thermostat on the magnetron will cut power to the unit until the magnetron cools off again.

If it happens once, it's likely to happen again.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

While a microwave should never be left running unattended under any circumstances (as your owner's manual will tell you) it's even more important when one is exhibiting a failure or any odd behavior.

So play it safe and stay with it while it's running!

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs, which would be dependent on the model number.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Make sure oven is plugged into a grounded outlet, and that the outlet is actually grounded.
Although extremely rare, I have seen ovens where insects were walking on the back side of a control panel, and causing problems. Could also just be some sort of electronic failure.

GE Spacemaker arcing?

It is possible, but you heard a similar bang earlier, from the description the magnetron is arcing on a occassion because it is failing, or there is bare metal exposed on the interior. I would recommend getting it checked out to make sure there is no safety hazard and have it resolved.

Hi there, I've just moved into a new apartment and the Samsung Timesaver microwave seemed to be working fine yesterday, but it has been beeping at odd times for no reason. I turned the power off to stop...

Hi, this is usually a bad touchpad. The way to tell for sure is to kill power to the unit, take the control panel down and unplug the ribbon connector that connects touchpanel to the clock. Put it back together and reapply power. The clock will just sit there blinking and, obviously, the buttons won't work, either. if the beeping stops, then the touch panel is bad. And If it still beeps, then you have a bad clock.

Start microwave clockon sharp carousel oven

Not sure what the question is.. But if it is how to start the clock in a COUNT DOWN mode, then:

1, Touch TIMER BUTTON
2. Program in the length of time you want to use, before alarm comes on
3. Hit start button.

Unit will beep at the end the count down.

Microwave beeping and F2 error code

hi,
The F2 code is a keyboard failure. Since it's intermittent I would check for a loose wire/connection. open the control panel and reset the ribbon cable on the circuit board....

Sylvania p70d20al-d5 microwave keeps beeping

I have the same problem with my microwave, the clock disappears and it says "enter" and "amt", I figured out it's the "beverage" button that is sticking. When I want to use it I just press "beverage" and then "reset" and just press them over and over until it stops. Usually it's on the first try, sometimes I have to press them a few times. Just don't do what I'm about to type though, I decided to get my razor knife and cut the button out carefully, I only cut the contacts on each side of the button, now no buttons work, I should have left it the way it was, at least I could use it that way.
