Unplug the range.
I would open the control console and locate the BAKE/BROIL terminals on the Oven control. I would reverse the wires, plug the range in and try again.
Sounds to me like someone has changed out a part and wired it wrong.

SOURCE: GE Profile Gas Range, oven doesn't heat up on any

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. Should be 3 - 3.6A. If less than 3A - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.

Part numbers, the first one being the direct replacement: WB13T10045, 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Those ignitors are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires, if not comfortable splicing wires - order the first one in the list above.

Good luck!

SOURCE: gas oven won't work on "bake" setting

If the hot surface ignitor is very red in the middle of it when turnig on the oven, it is faulty. Replace it.

SOURCE: MY GE PROFILE RANGE OVEN

I have the same problem and GE has a technical memo out on this. It requires a programming change. Right now, I am trying to get GE to fix it at no charge, but so far, no luck.

SOURCE: I have a GE Spectra

Hi,

Something has been spilled down the vent from the top....when the oven gets hot it is burning out and causes the smkoe...

On a nice day when you can open the windows, turn the oven on at the highest setting... like 550....then let it go till the smoke stops....this will burn off whatever is causing the smoke....

There is no filters for that type of thing...if you have a vent fan over the stove you can run that to help filter or exhaust the smell...

I have a GE range JGBP85. i smell gas when on bake. i see the ignighter glow and i see blue flames but i still smell gas. it has a lighter gas smell on broil

Hello,

That sounds very typical of a weak igniter. This tip i wrote goes a bit more into detail of why i believe that is so. http://www.fixya.com/support/r9947539-problem_when_gas_oven_ignitor_glows_but

The part number for the igniter on your model is WB2X9154 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;

I have a G E Spectra gas stove and oven the gas oven doesn't work

does it not bake or broil? if this is the case, it could be the control panel. however if one or the other of the bake and broil functions work then it would most likely be an ignitor. check to see if your broil and bake ignitors glow. to access the bake ignitor you must remove the bottom panel from the oven but you can probaly see it gowing without removing the panel. the broil ignitor should be in plain sight.

Gas smell when oven is on and heating.

This sounds like a gas leak at the gas control valve for the oven, probably somewhere just past the control valve. If the leak was before the valve, you would either hear or smell gas leaking all the time.
The line could simply be loose at the fitting or the gas valve could be faulty. You could also have a leak somewhere at or before the oven burner assembly.

At any rate, this condition can be dangerous. The oven gas leak (any gas leak) should be diagnosed by a competent technician and the cause(s) of the gas leak determined as soon as possible and corrected.

FGF374 - Broiler and Bake does not stay on

The flame sensor has to prove the flame to stay lit. When it fails, the valve closes.

Oven won't broil

You probably have a bad broil ignitor. When you turn the oven onb to broil the ignitor on the top of the oven should glow bright orange. If it doesn't glow or glows a dull orange, it is probably bad.

Temperature control

sounds like a bad bake ignitor(uneven heat, long cook times, long preheat times, perhaps even gas smell while cooking)

Self-clean not cleaning

I was wrong (I think).  the baking element probably was burnt out as the repairman said.  He replaced it and I thought selfclean still wasn't working.  In fact, I think I just had to give the self-clean function more time.  Also, I was judging by smell.  We have become used to a bad odor during self clean which was missing when it was broken and still missing after the repair.  Bottom line, the oven was clean after the baking element was replaced, sans smell.
