I may be able to add some advice on how to solve this unfortunate problem of "file contains no image data". I have been suffering from the same problem. I have recently been on some amazing vacations and the photos I have lost due to this problem have been invaluable to me! I would pay an insane amount of money to get these photos back, but unfortunately I cannot!
I have a nikon coolpix camera. I contacted the nikon coolpix technical support center. I spoke with a representative who asked me what type of memory card I have. As it turns out I have a generic memory card, which is not compatable with nikon. The only memory cards brands that are indicated to be used with the nikon coolpix camera that I have are as follows: Toshiba, Panasonic, Lexmark, and Sandisk. Those are the only 4!
I was told that if you use another memory card besides the memory cards brands that I have listed... that the camera may communicate incorrectly with your memory card, which results in data that is incomplete to support an image. When this happens you will only see a portion of your image, and you cannot get it back. These bad images with incomplete saved information are called "corrupt files". The representative told me that there are some programs that are available to purchase that may be able to correct corrupt .jpg files, but she believes that they are memory card brand specific.
To put it simply, when you do not have to compatable memory card in your camera, it is as if your camera is speaking english and your memory card is speaking chinese and they are not communicating properly (this was the way the representative explained this problem to me). So check your user manual for your specific type of camera or look it up online to see what type or brand of memory card you should be using! I truly hope this helps someone avoid losing invaluable photos!
