What channel or setting is used on the TV to play a DVD?

Hi, Channel 3 or 4 might work for older TVs. Most new HDTV's have a mode setting in the menu. (Video 1 or 2 or 3) or (Component 1 or 2). On your remote you may have DVD button. Try all these suggestions, 1 of these will work. You can play with the remote too. Good luck.

RCA Colortrak Stereo Monitor won't play DVD/Nintendo

The way you describe having your TV/DVD connected you wont see the picture in the regular channel line-up.
You will have to tell the TV to to switch to the video input. This is usually done by navigating the menu to the "input" and selecting video 1, video 2 etc
Failing that try changing to channel 00 ( just type 00 in remote)
Some sets will allow you to type in 02 and then hit the channel down button on the remote.

If you have the user manual it will give you the exact steps you need to take.

Can't get to "Video 1" to play DVDs

try turning your dvd player on and then doing a channel search if that does not work just buy a RF modulator and hook up your dvd player to it and it will run on channel 3 or 4 and will switch over by itself when you turn on your dvd player

VIDEO/DVD RECORDER

Ok here is a small checklist for you before going into panic mode.
  1. Most combo DVD/VID players will have a button on the face of the unit for switching between DVD & VIDEO, ensure this is set for the correct mode of operation.
  2. AV channel on TV's come in several different modes for multi outlets on the TV itself (ie: it may have more then 1 outlet for AV - rear, side & front on some TV's) ensure you have the correct AV channel selected.
  3. Check the connection configuration in your user manual, there may also be incorrect connection to the TV or Unit itself.
  4. The yellow lead usually is the Video lead ( this is for both modes DVD & VIDEO ), this is the one that is most likely incorrectly connected. Double check where it needs to go. The correct lead & socket should also be yellow if this is the case.
  5. AV in and AV out - Make sure you check both on the TV and the unit for the label AV IN and AV OUT, this is the most common connection error, it should be AV OUT from the unit > AV IN on the TV ( mostly the rear connection points will have this as with the ones on the rear of the unit )
  6. One other possible scenario is that you are not using AV leads ( commonly referred to as RCA Leads ) - you may well be using 5.1 connections ( All in one bundle that connects directly to the back of the unit and also the TV. This usually eliminates connection errors as it has several smaller pins in either end that connect at both ends. It is highly unlikely that these are incorrect in any case. This would most likely only be on the incorrect TV channel selection. Ensure you are on the correct one by cycling the channels with the unit playing either DVD or VIDEO.
  7. There can be other scenarios that will make your life difficult, however i feel in the majority of cases, the ones described above are the most common offenders.
  8. Other then this, perhaps consider having the unit checked by a professional ( to ensure it works normally ) this would confirm if either the unit is faulty and needs repair or the connections are incorrect.
Hope some of this helps, as most of these problems can be solved on the spot with a quick visual, however seeing your current setup is not possible and these tips are the most likely to help. Trust you find it's something simple of this nature.
