Pump noise is louder....

I have an almost 4 yr. old Kitchenaid under the counter dishwasher, model # KUDP01IL. I noticed this evening that rather than its usual quiet operation, it was louder when draining I guess. Does this mean my pump has a problem or is it something else? What do I do? My use and care manual did not address this problem.

The problem is defintely the pump.

Afetr a number of years the pump components start to wear out. Some parts disintergrate and float around in the pump assemby causing the pump to be noisy. Because of the nature of the faut - the onset of noise is sudden.

If you are a handy man, pull the pump apart. Clean out the ruined parts and see if you can make a new part to replace the old one. Whatever you do, don't make the mistake that I made the first time - don't make a part out of ANYTHING that the dishwasher detergent will dissolve or corrode - like mild steel for instance. Use stainless steel if you have to make a part. A good source of stainless-steel is an old pair of kitchen tongs. These are made of SS and are thin enough to cut with WISS Snips, can be drilled and shaped and still retain strength to do the job.

Use some imagination and you will solve the problem. Dishwashers do not involve any high tech. It's just a matter of replacing what wears out.

your better off just replacing the pump. you probably have broken glass or something else stuck inside the pump. to get to it you're going to have to remove the kick panel from the bottom of the machine. just follow the drain hose and you will see the pump.

Seems like the jet arms are not rotating dishes are not getting clean

Check with hand for free rotation. If OK the water pump is not getting ON or the pump is not developing pressure.

Kitchenaid Dishwasher has starting making a real loud noise

Hi Andy and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. That loud noise your hearing is the motor bearings. If you were to remove the lower kick panel you will prbably find signs of a slow leak of water has been trickling through the motor and you will see a water spot under the motor pump assembly.
You were correct in your assumption that it was bearings. What happens is the motor shaft ceramic seal starts leaking long before the home owner even notices it. Then the water gets into the motor and corrosion starts to build up. As the motor turns the bearing starts to spal as a result of the corrosion and you hear the loud noises.
The only fix for this sadly to say is a complete motor impeller assembly replacement. If your model number is the one associated with this post / question: KUDI01FLSS then there is one more digit after the last "S" that being one of the following numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.

The motor and impeller for your dishwasher Item 10 or 18 can be found here and is listed at $138.44:

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5164895&diagram_id=907556#d907556

The seal that has failed is item 23 of the same link. Changing the seal at this point will not stop the noise.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Loud Whirring Noises

very possible that it is indeed something stuck in the chopper assemble, remove the lower wash arm, from ther youll remove 4-5 torx15- screws and then under there you find another torx 15 screw , after removng the screw you can pry up hte cover form the right side and reveal the chopper assembly, i would refrain form removing the chopper if at all possible, its kinda a pain in the rear to put back in, buit you can cean any junk out if ness.
