Did you try to wait several seconds before turning the camera back on?
When it happens again, after turning off the camera please remove the battery for a few seconds and put it in again. then switch on.
If the problem persists goto the repairshop or your dealer.

SOURCE: Malfunction -turns on and message to return on

I had this problem on my DMC FX9. I turned it off removed the battery and charged the battery to full capacity then replaced it. The camera then started to work properly again. Can't promise it will work for you but its got to be worth a try. Regards, Andrew

SOURCE: Dropped the camera, shutter won't closed, focus keep moving in and out, message "please turn off camera and turn on again"

This recently happened to me and I too got a hefty quote from the company since mine was no longer under warranty. I figured since it was trash anyways, I might as well take it apart and see if I could figure out what was broken. After removing all of the screws and removing the top pin strip from the board (there is a piece of tape on it) and flipping the lens part away from the board, I was able to remove the small gear compartment on the side of the lens housing (held on by one small screw) and the 3 screws on the back of the lens and carefully flip out the digital camera part and push the lens back into it's original closed position. I then carefully reinserted the digital part back into the lens making sure everything was nice and flush and closed it back up. Works like new :D However, if you're nervous about digital machines, I wouldn't reccomend doing this. Luckily for me when my camera fell it simply knocked the digital lens out from the housing and it didn't pop back in right afterwards, causing the lens to not be able to turn completely like it should. If yours is damaged more than this, it may not be such an easy fix. And the camera is difficult to handle as it is connected by those pin strips everywhere. It made me nervous to handle it as I probably could have made it worse, but, I had nothing to lose. Hope this helps out the next person.

let me explain to you guys, these cameras are slim line cameras and if dropped or mishandled it is going to give problems. you cant blame the camera if you are not handling it corectly.

SOURCE: 'Turn camera off and turn back on' message

TRY DROPPING THE CAMERA -- YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!

I was heartbroken to learn that my Lumix DMC-TZ1, which I purchased 2-3 years ago, had died -- right during my daughter's dance recital, for seemingly no reason. Tonight I was surfing the web researching replacement cameras (many brands), and I realize that I feel like there is no real "history" on the camera that's any worse than any other camera on the market, including the Canon Powershots, which are all the rage right now. So I started researching on the Fixit site other cameras for possible problems.

What I found is that all the cameras have funky messages (Sony and Canon included!) that result when he camera has been dropped or the lense has somehow been altered. So I read all the different "solutions" and then came up with my own:

I decided that the lense needed to be un-jammed. At this point, if the camera was useless to me, I might as well take a chance and try to unjam it. So I did!

I held the camera about 3-4 inches from a table top. Then I simulated a "drop" (without the case) that was gentle enough that it wouldn't smash the LCD but that would maybe make the lense unjam. (Note: I couldn't SEE any problem with the lense; this was just a hypothesis I couldn't go wrong trying.)

Each time I put the camera on, tried to modify the zoom (a function which normally makes me get the error message forcing me to turn the camera off), and then got the message. BUT the 3rd or 4th time: TA DAH! NO MESSAGE! INSTEAD, A SHOCKER: I WAS ABLE TO MODIFY THE ZOOM! AND THEN I TOOK A PICTURE! AND VIDEO!!!!

So my camera is back! And I also have discovered that the flash problem I had started to have previously has now seemed to have gone away also.

My advice is to just TRY! You have nothing to lose: try "dropping it" back into shape! I know it sounds crazy -- but I just saved at least $200 by doing this!

SOURCE: Keep getting the message to please turn camera off

Many times this is due to misalligned lens as it pops out when powering on and we have an object or often our finger in front of it, keeping it from extending fullly without any resistance. You might want to try to gently help it out to and back in get the gears on proper track but it takes a very sensitive touch to massage it right.

Hope that helps. Have fun.

Do a BACKUP (Camera's internal memory & Memory card) and then format both of them and see whether the problem still persists. I think your camera's build in memory is full. Most of the camera's internal memory is not too big and you get these kind if massages. If you are not using an additional memory card (e.g. SD Card), I would advise you to use one.

Good Luck!

Hi,

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN or Access is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

My camera's screen suddenly went black after taking a photo. I thought the battery's low when that happened but the lense won't shut or come back. the On/off was just blicking. I tried turning it on again...

Hi,

The black screen problem means the lens sensor is spoiled due to over exposure to heat. Its better to give it to Nikon service center. If your camera is under warranty period its well and good they will replace the lens sensor for free of cost.
