Question about Panasonic Toughbook 28 Notebook

My panasonic toughbook cf 28 memory issue

I installed a memory module from another cf 28 (256mb and it worked in that unit) and my system wont recognize it. I tried a bios upgrade, but it isnt for this system it says.
Any help would be appreciated.

The card installed is golden ram 256mb pc100 (there are other numbers on it if needed). My toughbook CF 28 model # is CF-28prjp9dm. It is a 800MHZ Intel PIII Mobile.

You can only install one card on this unit.

From several memory retailers I am told I can go to a max of 512MB . Some say I can even add a 512MB card .

    Any other thoughts?

The memory on the computer to begin with is on the motherboard- I cant see it and have no clue what it is. Belarc advisor does say what kind it is either. I am not about to tear the thing apart to find out. I have some different memory on the way from a company that will allow a return with no restocking fee if it isnt correct.

I'm not sure what your configuration was in the computer before you tried installing the extra memory, but here's some common problems i see.

-it might exceed the maximum amount of memory that can be recognized in each slot or total for the computer

-it might have be installed in matching pairs (if it is a 2 memory slot machine which most are).

-it might not take that exact speed/rating

hope that helps

is it the same brand of memory? the only other thing i can think of is that sometimes computers will not take to certain brands - i see that quite often at work

Were theserial number on a cf-52

ALL Panasonic Toughbooks have the serial number
listed in two (2) places:
1) On a white sticker on the UNDERSIDE of the TB
(Usually beginning with a Number then a Letter).
2) If you press F2 when starting the unit, then the
serial number is listed on the first screen in the BIOS.

I want to restore my panasonic cf 74 to original factory

The best way to "Factory" Restore your Panasonic
Toughbook CF74 is to use the original recovery
disk(s) that came with the unit when new.

If you can't find them, you can order them from
Panasonic at the following website:

http://business.panasonic.com/support-computerstablets-dvdrequests

Here is what they say:
Recovery DVDs are available by mail for select Toughbook® products. Windows® XP back up service is only available to customers who purchased Panasonic computers with XP downgrade rights. Windows XP Backup Image and Windows 7 Recovery DVDs restore a PC to its original factory image. The standard Panasonic factory image includes the Windows operating system and all drivers/applications originally installed by Panasonic.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 Mk III P3 1Ghz 512Mb Ram , I have installed a brand new DVD rom Drive in the MP Bay it reconises in bios also reads upon first post however, will not boot from any os cd...

Some bios menu allows you to boot from USB. (Some are locked this option by makers.)

Run safety mode and try again to see whether your DVD rom is working.

Best way will be go to device manager; go to properties of DVD rom; go to driver and click roll back driver.

If this is not working (in case), uninstall driver and reinstall it.

The panasonicCF-73 tough book I am using has 256 RAM, can I increase this to 1gb or 2gb? Thank you,

According to: http://www.upgradecomputermemory.com/ram.cfm/memory/P/Panasonic/Toughbook-Series/Toughbook-73-CF-73

your CF-73 has "integrated" 256MB of memory, and supports a maximum addition of 1GB of RAM.
The web-site says about $33, which _definitely_ is a good investment to speed-up your computer.

How to upgrade the memory and what is the Maximum available memory card for this unit?

Okay, the maximum memory you can install is 1GB.
However, you either have 256mb or 512mb soldered on to the motherboard already, so check this out before buying.
The memory type is: 200 Pin SO DIMM DDR2100 266MHz

Have a CF-28

The last three letters of that model number are unnecessary.
CF-28P3JP8QM has the following desription:
PIII 800MHz, 256, 30GB, 13.3"NON-TOUCH, FDD, 56k/LAN, CISCO WIRELESS LAN, PALM ANT, NO 56K, XP/2K
You can look up this info for yourself at
http://config.toughbook.com/
You will need to use Internet Explorer as other browsers don't seem to work on that site.
