Hi,

Login to Skype. Go to Tools > Options > Audio Settings and adjust the level for the Mic there. Experiment with different devices from the list.
Also check Volume Control/Mixer and make sure nothing is muted or turned down low.

Hope this helps

Also make sure the Mic is plugged into the Mic plug on the back. It's possible that you've plugged it into the onboard sound mic plug, instead of the sound card mic plug or vice versa.

Why can my friends not hear me talking to them on Skype?

On a Mac mini made in 2010 or later, you'll need to use an external microphone to communicate as they're not built in. Plugging in a pair of Apple EarPods or headphones into the headphone jack should work just fine.

USB microphones will also do the trick (but you'll need to adjust some audio settings in Skype).

Hope this helps!

Can I use a plug in microphone to use skype on a Dell precision M70

I haven't set up Skype before, but it seems quite reasonable that if the Sound control panel is set to use the external microphone, that would work. Have you checked to see if the sound input is set to an internal microphone built into the laptop, or a line-level input? That could be your problem, especially if no such microphone is present.

Cannot hear my voice in microphone

These instructions are for Skype 4.2 for Windows or below. Before continuing, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version. For Skype 5.0 and above, refer to these instructions. If you're not sure which version of Skype you're using, it's easy to find out.
If the person you are talking to in a Skype-to-Skype call cannot hear you there are a number of steps you can take in order to help you set up your system correctly so that others can hear you.

Try calling Echo123. If you can hear your own recorded voice then your playback device (headphones, speakers, etc) and microphone are set up correctly and the problem might stem from low internet bandwidth, or that the person you are calling has not set up their sound devices properly.
If you cannot hear your own voice in Echo123 check that your microphone is on.

Test Echo123 again to see if the microphone now works..

THANKS.
If none of these steps work you might need to adjust your computers sound setup. Have a look at our Sounds Setup Guide.

The problem seems to be with your friend's setup, and possibly yours. Try adjusting mic levels and volume levels to where they don't interfere with each other. Ex.--you talk , they hear you at a volume that is too loud and it gets into their mic, creating a loop....feedback. You do the same too. Trial and error. Hope this is helpful.

The person I am speaking with does not hear me (He is deaf).
The microphone function does not appear to be working. I have adjusted the volume and that's not the problem (You must speak as well).
I have plugged both jacks (microphone and speaker) into my PC hard drive and am using my PC to talk on Skype (You cant plug even a single jack in the hard drive).
Problem solved!

Sometimes programs like Skype will lose the Mic settings and chose another input channel. Check your operating system's audio settings under something similar to "Recording" and see if microphone is checkboxed and turned up. Also, make sure it is not muted on Skype and/or the operating system.

If you have Windows XP, for example, look for the audio settings icon (little speaker) just left of clock area. Open and go to "options". Choose "properties" then "Recording". Look that your microphone is "Selected" with a checkbox and is turned up. To hear yourself during this, you will need to go back and choose "Playback" instead of "Recording" and de-select "mute" (if checked) for microphone and turn it up to see if you hear yourself talking over the speakers/headphones.

Also, check the Skype settings for microphone and that Skype has the correct sound device selected for input - being your microphone and not another device.

Also make sure that there is not a manual, physical volume adjustment for the microphone on the laptop case itself. Could even be a mute button.

Microphone too quiet

That's probably not going to work.
Mic level is extremely low compared with line level.
Your sound card is expecting a line level input.
It's simply not made to plug a microphone into (you must be using an adapter or two just to make the connection)
Look for a USB Audio Interface with XLR or 1/4" microphone inputs - these interfaces are pretty generic these days and easy to use ... just plug into your computer via USB and then plug the mic into the interface ... which has a volume control on it ...
I use a Tapco Link.USB ... and like it
