Try changing your homepage to what you want it to be. if it keeps reverting back to that or won't let you change it at all - i seem to remember an adware infection called search save or cool savings (something to that effect). If that's the case you will need some sort of virus/adware removal tool to get rid of it or you can reinstall windows.

1. You will have to clear your cache folder and your history in either IE ( Internet Explorer) and also download a program called "CCleaner: ( free) and this will allow you to do all the above in one fell swoop. Use the Google search engine to find. 2. Then download Windows Essentials ( anti-virus) from Microsoft ( free) to get rid of the malware and other unwanted programs that are slowing your PC down. Here is the site instructions set for the "security Essentials": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971606
Older versions of AVG won't update anymore. What you should do is uninstall your old version and download the latest version.
The firefox issue may be solved by uninstalling firefox. You could also try to download a newer version of firefox and install it.
You may set Internet Explorer as your default browser by starting it and choosing 'internet options' from the 'extra' menu. At the 'programs' tab there should be a possibility to set Internet Explorer as standard browser.
I would suggest you to use Mozzilla Firefox it is way better then internet explorer but you can go to MY DOCUMENTS then type in the website on the top search bar part and the internet should work then i would RECOMMEND firefox so test it out
Personally, Internet explorer just doesn't cut it for a lot of my websites. I've actually had the same exact problem. I've all but completely switched to Firefox web browser. It's backwards compatible with almost every site I've ever visited and I've noticed many fewer crashes.
Try firefox at www.firefox.com and see if that works better for you. The best thing about this browser is, the site I visit that must be viewed with internet explorer are viewable. They have a downloadable add-on that lets you run internet explorer in a firefox tab. :)
I hope this helps out, but other then my idea there isn't much you're going to be able to do. If their banking tools won't allow IE8, then you've gotta bite the bullet and use something else.
