Attach a external monitor to the laptop, it will have a VGA connection on the back or side. You will need to press, function and one of the F keys, F5 or F8 which are standard ones. So function and an F key. This will rotate the display from the laptop to the monitor and vice versa. If you get the display on the external monitor then you have an LCD or inverta(controls power to LCD screen) issue.

If there is no display to the internal or external, then you have a bad motherboard.

My screen went out. Does this model have a replaceable backlight or must I replace the entire moniter?

Laptops have a replaceable LCD screen which is quite simple to replace, but are you sure the screen has gone out or is it the video card? I would start by plugging into an external monitor and see if the display shows on it before condeming the lcd display.

Fn f1 diidnt do it, hdoes any one no if i can fix it wihout having to replave moniter or connection switch?

I think you are hitting the wrong Function Key combinations. Why are you using an external monitor anyway? What is wrong with the laptop's LCD Screen?

Plug in an external monitor and see if thedisplay shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crtmonitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vgaport. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will showon most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systemswill require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold downthe FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thruF12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will havethe icon of a display.

Each time you press the FN key plus the correct Function Key it toggles the Display between three stages (Show on Laptop only, Show on External Monitor Only, Show on both the laptop and the external monitor).

I cannot get my moniter on my laptop to transfer over to my external moniter any more the function f7 key just does the windows beep and all i can get the moniter to do is extend across to the other screen...

Go to Control Panel>Display>Settings

Here you will find the various options for replicating or extending your display to another monitor.

You may need to 'experiment' as there are some pretty dodgy choice sequences required to get the result you want.

By the way, F8 is usually the function to toggle screens, not F7, but I don't know what machine or operating system you are using, so that could be wrong.

Laptop screen comes on after several startups

Hi there.
The laptop is suffering from major issues with the bios.
Seeing as the laptop is only 6 months old i would recommend that you take advantage of the manufacturers warranty, providing the fault is not user fault (by what you explain its hardware) they will fix the issue or replace the laptop at no cost to yourself. Standard warranty is 12 months.
I don't want to tell you to start messing about with it as doing so will void the warranty.
While you are still able to use it back up all of your data before you send it in.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
