Question about Sub-Zero 632 / S

Open Question

New Sub Zero Thermost not working properly

We replaced the refrigerator thermostat in a 550 sub zero thermostat but now the temperature varies wildly. It goes from 20 to 44 to 35 etc. Checked it every few hours over three days.

Thanks in advance. . .

Thanks for your reply. We installed Kit# 4200930 which is the updated one. It is the exact same thermostat that was in there that had worked for years. It had already been replaced once before years ago. I wish I still had the instruction sheet that had the modifications to double check them but I assumed that since it was an identical replacement it would be fine. Problem was definately the thermostat as it would not turn on the compressor at all at any setting but compressor would run fine as long as you had the thermostat jumped. Customer sent me his three day chart of temps showing that they varied from 20 to 44 deg. Both tubes are in the same position as they were with the one being in the bracket under the evaporator on the left and the small tube is crimped in the evaproator. Thanks.

4200930 was cut off in the first line and I assume yours was BEFORE not after like I wrote. Call factory at 800-222-7820 if you still have problems.

    Replacement Control Components (501R,532,550,561)
    Prior to #M821354/P612141. Starting with
#M821354/P612141 see 4201260.I assume that your serial number is after that break. It sounds like you did everything right. Check the serial number break to make sure. Also check operation of your evaporator fan motor and the fan switch.

Did you replace it with Sub Zero part 4201260? Is the bulb and cap tubes in the right place?

verify the water supply to the valve first, second verify valve to icemaker works(unit has dual valve at rear bottom of fridge, switch plugs, then press water dispenser and see if icemaker fill with water ) if fills icemaker is bad , if not valve is bad. replace one or the other.

Sounds like your freezer drain is blocked up. You will require a freezer drain heater kit for this repair. It was a common problem for this unit and can be a easy fix. However it does take some patience to fish the heater down into the drain pan.

Hi!

I had the same problem with my 550...several times the tech came out and used a steam machine to blow out the drain...which didn't solve the problem. Finally, they ordered a refrigerator drain heater from sub-zero (part#4201290) and this finally fixed the problem. Hope this helps...I'm not a tech, just a customer. K

SOURCE: ICE MAKER SUB ZERO REFIGERATOR

Check water turned on. check ice button switch turned on in fridge. remove juice storage, ice container in freezer, check ice bucket full white plastic flapper to make sure not stuck on a white peg at top. flapper must hang down and be freely movable to signal ice maker to keep busy. If up high will turn off ice maker. Lots of other parts especially heater circuits involved also: fill tube supply heater not working then frozen supply line then no ice. Look for wiring diagram in ziplock behind compressor grille. can order parts at repairclinic.com. logical design, layout, easy to get to sensors, heaters. makes sense if look at it long enough.

SOURCE: Freezer not working on Sub-Zero 550 Refrigerator/Freezer

You probably need to defrost freezer - frozen moisture possibly stockedevap. fan motor in the freezer. Turn it OFF for 24 hours and start itover. Make sure no moisture condensation on the freezer compartmentsurfaces as walls and shelfs. If so wipe it out. Pull out and remove upper basket from the freezer, push fan switch which is located almost under ice maker. You have to hear evaporator fan motor start working. Still not work? Call to professionaltechie! Good luck! :)

We replaced all of the light bulbs in our 550 and the lights still do not work, any ideas?

Most likely light switch is bad. Could be light limit t-stat (prevents from overheating) and wiring problem too.

You probably have some food on the way. Unload the freezer and see if the door would close better. Looks like you have a warm air leak.

Cycle off

As you probably know, the recommended temperature range is between 35-45 F so if you control will not allow you to set this, the sensor or associated regulator has failed.

Just posted this elsewhere and it sounds like the same problem:

This seems to be an issue with Sub-Zero.

Sub-Zero 550 - freezer unit is chilling, but not freezing

Ice maker was intermittent at best - ice was often just a shell. After two failures to correct we had the ice maker (a Whirlpool - on a Sub Zero - Go figure) replaced. Then the paddle that detects the ice level broke. Next step a new GE.
