You need to start by checking two things:

1. Is the wireless nic on the laptop turned on? Sometimes there is a switch or button on the laptop casing that turns the wireless nic on and off. Also you can sometimes turn the wireless nic on and off via a key combination on the keyboard. If you're sure it's turned on, take it to a wireless hot spot to verify that it is in fact picking up wireless networks in the area.

2. Did you connect to the wireless router using an ethernet cable, log into the routers configuration interface, and verify that the wireless access point is in fact turned on?

If the above does not lead you to a solution please answer the questions in this thread so that we can continue.

Cant connect to d-link DIR-615 wirelessly, can someone help me?

What is the operating system on your laptop?
Can you access the Internet if you connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If the wired connection is working then it must be the problem with the wireless network.
If the wired connection is also not working then you may need to reset and reconfigure the router.
If only wireless is not working then you can try creating a new wireless network and then connect your laptop to the new wireless netwok.
I can suggest you a website which may help you for Home network connection.

When you configure the wireless settings in your router ie SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption, then the wireless card in your laptop needs to be configured with the router's wireless settings so the laptop can connect to the wireless router.

Cant get wireless router to work on laptop

First, try to connect your laptop hardwired to the router, if it works fine, its just the wireless configuration. Make sure you are using the correct wireless network key to connect to your wireless network. Go to the Control Panel > Network Connections > Right-click Wireless Network Connection > Properties > Wireless Networks Tab and delete all the names listed under Preferred Networks box. Click Ok. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection again > View Available Wireless Network > Choose your own network and click Connect. If it asks you to type the network key, type in your WEP or Wireless Network Key and press connect. That should do it.

Cant connect 2 laptops through linsky wrt54g is this possible

are you connecting the laptop hard wired or wirelessly?

for wired connection, just plug the ethernet cable from the router to the laptop and it should work fine.

for the wireless connection, check on the wireless network connection. for xp, click on start> control panel> network connections> right click wireless network connection> then click on view available wireless network> then select your network.. for secure wireless connection, type the security key then click connect. :-)
