Hi, it is usual to drives not recognized if it is new and connected to the system. Now, try this one to make it active. Go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Computer Management.
Under Computer Management, expand Storage->Disk Management. On the results panel, Right Click the Volume(X:) then click Mark Partition as Active or click Reformat.

*I hope this fixes your problem. If you have problems, please drop me a comment and I'll gladly help you.

Automatic password on having ignited the equipment

Issue: A "Password =" prompt may be displayed when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is resolved.
If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.
The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider.

Resolution: If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, download and install the latest BIOS version. Newer BIOS versions display a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.
The latest version of the computer's BIOS may be found at pcsupport.toshiba.com.
For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.
If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem resolved. Toshiba will cover the cost of this repair under warranty until Dec 31, 2010.
To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit the Toshiba Global ASP Locator at pcrepair.toshiba.com

Hi,

Here you go....!

  1. Press ‘Alt + F10' to start eRecovery Management.
  2. Enter default password of 6 zero's. Example: 000000
(Note: if this default password does not work, then a different password has taken its place. Acer is not responsible for any forgotten or misplaced passwords.)
  3. Select ‘Recovery Actions' and click ‘Next'
  4. Select ‘Reinstall Applications/drivers' and click ‘Next'
  5. On the left hand side of the newly opened window select the following: Windows XP
    ? Driver
    ?Camera
  6. On the right side of the same window, click ‘Install Camera Driver Now'
  7. The unit will reboot after the installation is complete.
Cheers

Vertical stripes then system hangs

Check the cable to the back of the LCD. If it is moved even a little bit they can dislodge enough to cause this. It will not be able to reset itself until it is powered off then back on.

The cables will normally come loose after the lid is opened and closed so many times. It's not really a fault, but the cables have to be kept to an almost exact length because there is no room for extra long cables in there.

The other place to check is inside the laptop base where the cables connect to the motherboard/video card. They can also become loose over time.

Hope that helps =)

Boot sequence / bios password issues with Acer Aspire 5100

The finger print bull is how that password came up for me and they want a 125.00 to remove it. I called the better business bureau and filed a complaint. They shouldn't have any right to control your laptop. I to have a 6292 , took it apart as far as I could and could not find jumper or password. This is a gimmick to make money.

Trying to reset Bios Password

Have you tried not typing in a password?

Something must have changed...either you installed some software and it changed your ntldr file...or you removed a shared file.
If the computer was given to you..and there's nothing on it that you need...I suggest doing a clean install...wipe everything out and start from scratch.
This way, you have the computer set up the way YOU want it..

If there are no important files that you need...a clean install sometimes is the best avenue of defense...yes...it does take time to install (an hour or so)...but Acer has all the drivers for your computer and you can get it back up and running clean if need be..
