Exact age, and exact problem? I have called a repair man! He asked if the screen had been hit, but after telling him that at first the lines would go away after the t.v. was warmed up, he thought it was mechanical and could be repaired? I will let you know and please do the same.

Mine is 14 months old and tonight it started with a bunch of muti colored lines covering the left half of the screen, going up and down. I tried system reset but that didn't work. I turned it off and later tried it again. Then it worked, but not for long. I can send a photo of what it looks like on the screen. Of course, it is just out of warrany.

  • fairhome Feb 19, 2009

here is a sample of what the lines look like. It just started today.

  • fairhome Feb 19, 2009

These lines are on all Imputs ( Ant., DVD, VCR, etc) It don't matter what channel the TV is on either when viewing from the over the air Ant.

We have a similar issue with our LT-40133 TV. Our television is only 9 months old when we experienced vertical lines on the right side of the TV consuming about 5 inches of the screen. We took the TV in to a repair center within 5 days of experiencing the problem. First off we were told the repair would take 8 - 12 weeks. You can only imagin how negitivly that response was received. After 4 weeks we were told by the repair center these TV's have problems and have been pulled from the shelves. We proceeded to contact Mitsubishi who said some one would return our call within 3 days. On the Third day we called Mitsubishi back to file a complaint about not getting a return call and were told a supervisor would get back to us in three days which is where we're at now. Mitsubishi's support has alot to be desired and I will do my best to share my experience with as many people on the internet and verbally our experience. It is a real shame the comsumer is expected to pay $1,500.00 for a TV and get a run-a-round when warranty is requested.

I'm posting this so everyone else understands what to expect from Mitsubishi if they should experience the need for a warranty repair or any repair from what I've read on the blogs. The lines the other are experiencing are not from interference rather a design flaw. I will be filing a complaint to consumers affairs but in the mean time I'm at the mercy of Mitsubishi's customer service pratices. I will follow up as things progress or digress.

My 40133 has the lines on it as illustrated in this purchased at FRY's on Nov. 4, 2007 at Frys 59 highway South in Houston. It gave me about 15 months before the lines appeared, just long enough for warranty to expire. Timed obselesence. . No ext. warranty here just frustration at all levels. No one responds at Consumer Relations. Just another design flaw I guess you pays and pays for your Mitsubishi monster. Three years of saving to get the TV and then this ****. Why cant these folks just do the right thing.

We have the LT-40134 and have the exact problem as described on this thread. For us, if we leave it on for 30 minutes prior to watching the lines will always go away but this is not a long term solution.

Same issue here. Warranty just ran out. Customer service does not care.

  • fairhome May 11, 2010

This is on all channels, and all imputs (DVD, Ant., VCR, etc.)

Similar problem with an eleven and a half month old LT-40148. Approx. 1 inch vertical banding line on left side of screen on all inputs. After about two weeks, same problem on the right side of the screen.

Fortunately this occurred two weeks prior to the one year warranty expiring.

Called Mits customer service and they referred me to an authorized service center who I happened to have dealt with before.

They picked up the set. The front panel (LCD screen ) had to be replaced. Set was gone for two weeks as parts were not in stock. There was no charge. I hope this screen last more than a year.

Bad/Going Bad/Will go horribly bad TCON board (small circuit board sitting at the top of the panel in the back).

Most likely, the whole panel will need to be replaced in order to rectify the issue.

My LT-40133 devloped a 3-1/2" banding line on the left side of the screen. It is very subtle and is only really noticable when brodcast colors are bright (whites or blues). Lucky for me I caught this in the 10th month of my warranty. It took them around 2 months for the service center to repair it because they had to order a new LCD panel. The tv was returned as good as new and I felt very fortunate to have caught this problem. It is now been 11 months since the repair has been made and the line is back! I guess I am just going to live with it..............

SOURCE: Vertical lines on my 40 inch lcd mitsubishi hdtv 1080.

I assume your Misubishi is not close to anything electrical. However, it sounds like you have had an interference for some time. This will ineviteably cause the HDTV LCD to collapse. LCD's don't respond well close to heat. Is there a vent close? LCD's do well in a properly vented area but with all this said.......they will pick up interference from anything electrical. A few questions to ask ones self........are there any wireless devices or chargers close to the LCD? Might there be an oven, a/c unit or other wiring with 220 volts anywhere close to the LCD such as in the wall?
The Mitsubishi LT is a very reliable, multi component ready set that allows great viewing with surround sound. However, stop and think about this interference. It is not something in the unit. It is an interference. Look hard and when you've discovered it.....you won't believe how crystal clear this set will be.
Let me know what you find...Thanks for using Fixya and add any comments that may help us help you.

Whire vertical band , 3 inches wide with red kine in the middle

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

Check the cables, connectors and connections.

Take it to a repair shop.

Only boards are sold and no parts- a 32 inch may not have even the boards or be cost effective to repair----suspect main board here.

Sony KDL40EX400 has (2) 2 inch wide vertical color bars about 4 inches from the left side of the screen. Purchased July 2010

If you have tried using different input devices, looked for loose contacts
in power outlet, RC Jack, cable and connectors, the TV might need service.

The screen has colored vertical lines and becomes to a dark black band about 6 inches of width. The tv is exactly two years old by today.

My 3-year old 52-inch Toshiba flat panel TV (Model # 52RV53U, Serial # AM409000295) developed a display problem (purchased Aug. 2008, manufactured July 2008). Vertical multicolored lines appeared on the screen just left of center. The band of thin vertical bars is 5.5 inches wide. The lines are about 1/16-inch wide. They are stationary, always exactly in same place. They over-ride any other picture on the screen (no transparency). They are there all time even with no video inputs to the TV after the unit is turned on. See picture #1. The TV works well in every other respect, but, obviously, it is annoying to watch the picture with the color band blocking about 1/6 of the picture.

I already swapped out the TCON board with no improvement and replugged the TCON board cables with no improvement.

Most likely it is the flat panel tab bond failure (panel made by Samsung). Further solution updates will be on my Facebook page.
