Ok lift the lid and inside you will see a brew basket (it will have a hole in the bottem middle of it) If this unit has a mesh type filter basket you will not need paper filters! you put the coffee in the mesh basket the replace before brewing! if you do not have a mesh basket you will need a paper filter to put down in the coffee holder!(the one with the hole in the bottom!) add coffee and waeter and brew!
I hope this fixes ya up!

A HELPFUL TIP: Mr. Bowers is correct that you don't NEED to use a paper filter. However, I strongly suggest you place a paper filter into the mesh filter, anyway, Comparison: I didn't use a paper filter to 'line' my 1st mesh filter. Within a short time, brown, ever-darkening, & unremovable staining set in. Also, mesh filters succumb to job stress -- not only of regular, daily handling. They'd, contentedly & forever, nest your freshly-ground coffee -- as long as you don't wet it. Of course, running water through the grounds is the 1st secret to making a great cup of coffee, and mesh filters are OK with that -- except for the staining. The real bad begins with dumping the wet grounds -- which are now sticking to the wet mesh with considerably increased weight. Every time you slap (or slam, or shimmy-shake) the filter to jar them out, the mesh caves & pulls at the rim. That's where you'll spot the tear responsible for, ushering grounds into your coffee. I decided to shield my 2nd mesh filter from the ravages by inserting a paper filter. They're cheap, and solved every one of those issues. Enjoy!

It was time to change the filter and clean the coffee maker-I changed the filter and cleaned the coffee maker and now it will not work

You didn't say how you cleaned it but changing the filter shouldn't render it inoperative there is a reset button to reset the change filter timer but that shouldn't cause it to fail..Need more info.

I need a replacement filter for my kenmore coffee maker item#69768

If anyone is looking for the Kenmore Coffee Water Filter model 69768 - Sears / Kmart re-branded the filter under the Cuisinart name making them near impossible to find under the Kenmore name. HERE is the link to order them under the Cuisinart name at SEARS (its the EXACT same filter and they come 2 to a pack)

Kenmore Coffee Maker

If it's only 2 months old, I would suggest taking it back to Sears and getting it replaced under warranty.
