I am unhappy with the light level while scanning slides.

I have a Canoscan 4400F. I am scanning slides. I am unhappy with the light level of a lot of the scans. Is there anyway to increase the light level?

I think I am having the same problem. It kind of looks like you are looking at some specimen under a microscope after you scan in a slide. It happens about a fourth of the time. Another third of the time the slides scan in with an extra white strip on one side of the digital image. It is so frustrating. I am not doing this for fun. This is a job, so I have to get this fixed one way or another.

I haven't solved the light problem, but I have found a pretty good program that allows me to enhance my scanned slides-pics into nearly slide-projector quality pics: XnView. I have found that it is best to not try to use the enhance program in PhotoStudio 5.5 (the driver-program for the Canonscan 4400F).

sounds like the scanner is skipping pixels. that is usually a sign of malfuncting. the best solution is get a new one. cost of getting new one is much cheaper to repair it.

Why is my canoscan 44oof scanning in negative mode i.e white paper with black print is scanning black with white print

I solved this problem by the following:

Don't scan from the Canoscan toolbar. Use an imaging program (I used Picasa), import from the Canoscan, and Scangear opens up. In the settings for Scangear, you can choose positive or negative film (use positive for slides). You can keep using Scangear, or after using it once, you'll see it has corrected the problem with the toolbar

Canon 440f won't scan

I had exactly as described on my new 4400f scanner. Have resolved by uninstalling the toolbox software (it was at 5.0.1.2), downloading toolbox s/w from canon site, file name is S6A04mux.exe - toolbox 5.0.1.1 Installed this and all works from the scanner front panel
