hi, usually its the infrared receptor that need to be replace, he is placed near the stand by light.
in a rare case the problem is at the 5v voltage that goes to the receptor. more rare is the possibility
that something is wrong at the microprocessor circuit. good luck!
Not anymore. go to a tv repair shop and look for an older universal or maybe an original. the new ones won't work on this old stuff. however it might be your I.R. receiver failed. but i have seen this quite a bit lately. if it is more than 10 yrs, old there is a problem with some mfg. codes. and nec doesn't make tv's anymore.
Try to locate the line of sight sensor on your TV that does not respond to the remote. The lack of response indicates that the sensor on the TV needs to be cleaned. It does not take much (dust, wax, cleaner residue) to block the signal.
Check whether the remote control is working properly or not by using remote checker. Even if it is the universal remote control you have to set the code for the particular model. Otherwise it will not work.
Sometimes dust is accumulated in tv remote receiver sensor. This will give you the malfunction. Because your statement says TV is about 8 yrs old. Better solution is make one general service. If you have remote checker check the TV original remote working or not. We say universal remote, sometimes even technical person does not know how to use. Because in each and every brand and model there is a secret code to initiate the version. So better make one general service and check in your original remote it is working.
You have already diagnosed the problem, the remote receiver on the tv is bad,is rare but it happens but before you call for help try unpluging the tv from the wall for 10 minutes and then plug it back in and try it,sometimes this takes care of the problem,if that does not do it you will need the help of a servicer ,your remotes are working but the receiver is not processing the information. If you are familiar with tv service it should be easy to locate the receiver, sometimes is soldered to the chassis and sometimes is part of the push button assembly and conected to the chassis by wires,if is part of the push button is easier to replace,if you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and ask for help.
