Continuous start up loop

My pc just stays in a boot up loop. It goes to the start up modes(safe, normal, etc) No matter what I choose it keep going back to the same screen. I can activate bios and recovery(only for complete recovery back to original factory setting. I need some files copied before I do this. Any suggestions.

I am having the exact same problem on the same model Gateway, did you find a solution?

  • Standard22 Apr 30, 2009

I'm having the exact same problem and don't have the recovery disk. I can do a system recovery, but it's the one that reformats the drive and loses all of the files. I am not getting the nondestructive option, only the destructive one.

What did you guys end up doing?

Should I find a way to recover the files and the do the destructive format? That's my best idea right now.

  • Standard22 Apr 30, 2009

I found my disks and tried therm. It still only gives me the destructive format option. How can I get to the nondestructive option? I can't start it in any of the safe modes either.

I fixed mine. I took the hard drive out and hooked it to my friend's computer with the intention of copying the files to his portable drive. I just attached one of the power harness plugs to the drive and plugged the blue harness to his computer's board. We started the computer. Before I could copy anything, the computer started scanning my drive. It deleted tons of corrupt files, did some other stuff, and then started recovering the files that were corrupt. The computer then started and I could see all of my files on the K: drive. The computer recognized my drive as K: and L:. I copied the files to the portable drive and then reinstalled my drive into my computer. I turned it on and it fired right up just like it used to. I was pretty amazed that my friend's computer fixed mine.

This sounds like something I would like to try, but I haven't a clue. Do you think you could include step by step instructions for me? I'm not very computer savvy, but I am not afraid to try to do things myself with the help of technical support! Thanks!

If that's so, use your operating system disc. Just use the REPAIR option, not the Install a fresh copy of the operating system. You don't have to worry because it will not remove your files saved in your harddisk. It will stay intact if you choose Repair. It will just repair the missing/corrupted file in your system.

When I turn my computer on, it asks for safe mode or start windows normally or last configuration. No matter what I put in it does not boot up; it kind of keeps looping.

I could be caused by harddisk failure since it cant boot properly anymore.
Try running your Window installation cd. Once it boot the cd, choose Repair option.

The computer will not boot into normal mode without shutting off the power. If I go into safe mode and disable the video drivers then it will boot into normal mode and run for as long as I want.

Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.

It could be your hard drive problem. Which I called it, "Crash." I would suggest you try to format the hard drive and reload the operation system with your installation CD.

try starting the computer in safe mode. As the computer boots keep pressing F8 until you hear a beep. The computer will or should start in safe mode, once it has everything will look big, don't worry about that for now, click on start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date for when you know the computer was working without any problems. Once the computer has restored it will shut down and reboot. When/if asked what mode you want to boot/start your computer choose start windows normally. I hope this helps.

Xp wont start on sony vaio v94vq

Try booting into safe mode completely. Then shut down completely. Unplug for a couple minutes and plug back in and see if it will boot normally. If not, then go back to safe mode and use a restore point in XP. If that does not work then either XP is corrupted or the hard drive is going bad. You can try restoring your system with the restore discs. NOTE: This will erase all data, pictures, letters, financial info, etc. you have saved.
If that does not work then you can try replacing the hard drive.
Hope this helps!
