Step by step instructions on how to scan documents to my pc

In case you don't have the manual, check this online :

http://files.canon-europe.com/files/soft39530/Manual/Canon%20MP495_499%20EN.pdf

Assuming you have installed the software (from the CD-ROM) successfully, the scanning tools/program (MP Navigator EX) will guide you through the scanning process. See pp. 22-23 and pp 330-338 of the above document.

How can i scan multiple pages into one pdf with mx870

Forget all the old postings here. They are not reflective of the 2016 information.

FEB 15 2016 For Windows 10
1. Open the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility. (Came with your MX870) on your PC. Make sure it is ENABLED. (Look for icon in the right side of your tray and right click on it.)

2. Open Canon MP Navigator EX Came with your MX870) on your PC.
2a. Click Scan/Import Button at the top.
2b. Click Photos/Documents (Platen) button on right side.

3. Place the first page of your document on the platen. Close lid.
3a. Click the green Scan big rectangular button.
3b. Remove first page of the document, place the second page of the document on the platen, close lid.
3c. NOTE: This time, there will be a small rectangular box in the same large white box that has the small thumbnails of the page of your document that you have scanned. The small box will be labeled "Scan Complete." There will be a note that says, "Scan complete, to continue scanning load the next document and click "SCAN." There are two choices only. "Scan" and "Exit."

4. Repeat step 3 - 3c clicking on the "Scan" button in the Scan Complete box for each page of the document. When the last page is scanned and the thumbnail is in the white box with the rest of the multi-page document, click on the "Exit" button.

5. Use the Ctrl button and choose each of the thumbnails representing the pages of the document you want to save as one file. Be sure they have a yellow frame highlighting each thumbnail, as well as have a small check in the little box at the bottom left of each thumbnail.

6. At the bottom left of the MP Navigator EX window, click on the rectangular box that says, "Save as PDF file."

7. Your multi-page PDF file will be saved in the location you have specified in the settings.

If you need the drivers and software for this go to the:
Canon Support ' MX Series' PIXMA MX870 site here:
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-inkjet-printer/mx-series/pixma-mx870

Under: Drivers and Downloads, choose "Recommended Downloads" and get this driver and File Name: MX870 series MP Driver Ver.1.06 (Windows) 01/29/16 31.73 MB
Then under Drivers and Downloads, choose "Software" and get this software and File Name:
MP Navigator EX Ver. 3.15 (Windows 10/10 x64/8.1/8.1 x64/8/8 x64/7/7 x64/Vista/Vista64/XP/2000) 07/22/15 47.72 MB

I'm trying to scan a document into Adobe PDF. I have Adobe on my operating system but it's not coming up as option to select when scanning the document. Any suggestions?

All you need to do is use the MP Navigator. With that up and running you simply scan all the images then choose the save as PDF option. You only need the Adobe on your system to read the file, not to create it.
The Navigator will allow you to create and correct the images into a multi page PDF. It should be on the instalation CD if you have not loaded up Navigator.

I can't connetc mx310 to my new computer. The computer is running windows vista. Do I need to download a seperate software ?

Hi,
The printer drives varies with OS, even if the printer is of the same model. So goto canon website and specify your printer model and OS, download appropriate drivers and install it in Vista. Then you are good to go.

Don't know how to set scanner for multiple page scan into single pdf file

The supplied Canon software is horrible, but it can be done!

Launch ScanGearStarter, choose advanced tab and click preferences button, then select scan tab.
Untick box "Automatically quit ScanGear....." then click ok.
(This box being ticked totally prevents multipage single file scanning).

Now choose simple mode tab, select the document type, dpi and document size.
Now click the green "Multi Scan" button, place the document on the scanner glas and press next in the new window.

The page will be scanned and the ScanGear window will return, just click "Multi Scan" again and place next document, press next. Keep repeating until all pages are scanned, then close the ScanGear window.

This will bring up a third window showing thumbnails of each page, any of these pages can be deselected if required.
The other important step is to choose from the pull down list Saved as Type: "MultiPagePDF".

Choose the location for saving the file and click save.
Hallelujah! .......stupid software.

I do not know how to scan a document and have it stored on my computer. I have a Canon Pixma MP 240

Check your owner's manual, and the install disk, it should have a manual, too. Search your computer for a file called 'twain'.

You can find all the manuals, drivers, and setup guides at the following link on the canon support site:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=11010#DownloadDetailAct

I'd suggest downloading the software guide (available for both PCs and Macs).

Scanning with Canon Pixma MP450

I just did it then! With help from solution posted Feb 08 leave the acual scanner alone can be done from the computer. Steps:

1. Go to - start - control panel - printers & hardware - scanners.
2. Once inside the scanners folder just click once on the scanner icon (mine is called WIA Canon) so it is highlighted.
3. Then click on the toolbar 'File' > 'scan', then select the correct program from the list (mine was MP Navigator 2).
4. Use the MP Navigator program to select "scan photo/document", follow the instructions. At the bottom if the window that is open you can change the document type to PHOTO or DOCUMENT!

This is where the problem lies it is scanning the document as a photo which is why it is coming out as multiple documents.
