Question about Reddy Heater-40,000 BTU Kerosene w/T'stat

1 Answer

Won't ignite and fill the entire tube with flame, cold air, smoke

I have a M50S 50,000 btu heater on kerosene, had a buddy throw it away because it did this, thought I scored but don't know now. He had diesel fuel in it, but I changed that and put kerosene in it. Looks like it should work, had cover off, igniter sparking, flame inside, end doesn't glow though, blows cold air and smoke. I am a mechanic by trade, thinking, wouldn't have smoke if fuel wasn't getting there, wouldn't have flame inside if igniter wasn't working, really need it going right now, girlfriends car wouldn't start this morning-------OH BOY can you please help me????????

The deisel fuel hogged it up. Clean everything out and replace the wick. Deisel fuel is filthy to burn and it needs a lot of airflow.

My ready heater 100,000 will run for app. 5hrs then flame out and blow smoke or unburned fuel the same several times pressure is right

If the heater continuously has a 5 hour run-time check to see if the fuel pickup tube goes to the bottom of the tank. If broken, cracked, or shortened the fuel will stop being picked up when air is sucked rather than fuel.

Burners are only lighting half way and then gas cuts out. Then the system repeats it' self. coleman heater mod #7995856, serial #1287658845. this is pretty close or just like heaters used in RV'S

OK, the burners will need to have flame on the entire surface or it will trigger a sensor and shut-off. Get a brush and maybe even one of thoes can of air and blow off the burner. Stay away from the glow ignitor because that is very delicate. Once you get flame on all surface of the burners, the unit should stay lit.

Igniter lites up fan kicks on and within 5 sec shuts off

Dustin, The ignitor only glows for 5 seconds, just long enough to ignite the fuel. The heater is shutting down because the photocell does not see the correct flame color.
Since you say "comes on for 5 seconds", I can only assume that there is a flame. You do not specify a lack of flame. I am also assuming that you have had the heater running this heater season and the problem just started.

YOU must find out if the problem is fuel delivery related or electronics related. Start by checking the pump pressure.
