Thanks, I tried that. I think it's the hard drive. I gotta get a file off, but I can't get the hard drive read by another computer. It knows it's there but it can't find any files.

I bought a device to allow me to hook my drive to another computer. I used My Computer and saw that the D: drive was showing up. I clicked on the D Drive icon and it came up with an error message saying that the D Drive didn't exist, The device I bought had a power light and looked like it was activating and trying to read the drive when I clicked on the the icon.

I can't get passed the main screen when I turn my lenovo desktop all in one on. It goes to the screen that has a 75max so easy so simple how do I get passed it

Hi

Sounds like your boot up files are corrupt so it cant read any further then the screen.

you need the windows start up disc to match the windows installed on your laptop/pc

load it and when it asks you to install or repair select repair and follow the prompts to reinstatement the boot up files or master boot record MBR

Dell Latitude D630 Laptop, no Bootable device when trying to start laptop, but hard drive works find on other computer usb drive

It sounds like you have lost the boot manager file. The boot manager is a file set up by Windows to stop hackers from getting in to your system and if a problem occurs it is deleted by Windows.
When you try to boot and the desktop gets to POST, teh Dell page, quicklt hit F8
When, and it will take a few goes to get the timing right, you are succesfull a DOS menu will be shown on your screen
Select repair and follow the instructions.
Hope this helps.

Get black screen on reboot on my optiplex 360 by dell.can't reboot in safe mode or last good configuration etc. used the recovery disk and went thru all checks no problems found on test. don't have a...

Sorry for the basic questions, but I need to know more about the symptoms.

What do you see happening on the screen when you boot? What stage does it get to before it goes blank? From your description, if you were able to go through the recovery disk process, your monitor is presumably working.

You can try creating a boot disk on your laptop (assuming you have a cd or dvd writer on the laptop), and booting the desktop from that. You will need to set the desktop to boot from removable disc rather than internal hard disk - to do that you need to enter bios settings (press F2 while booting) and change the boot sequence.

To create a boot disk on your laptop go to

http://www.hirensbootcd.net/

and download, then copy to a CD. This CD is bootable and has a variety of diagnostic tools including virus scans. Put it in your desktop, after changing the boot sequence, and boot from that. You PC will then start up without using Windows and you can perform various diagnostics from there.

For more detailed instructions please post a reply here and I will try to help.

My laptops file BOOTMGR is missing how to solve this

Sometimes you can solve this by copying the file from a working laptop. Other times, you need to boot fom the Windows installation disk or CD or DVD, then go into repair mode, and follow the Windows instructions to recreate the file specifically for your laptop.

Forget windowxp password

you can search for a password boot disk which will disable the administrator password.

There are dozens of these types of programs but one program I recommend is windows password reset 6.0
http://www.resetwindowspassword.com

Download the iso file and burn it to a disk to create the boot disk, that simple.

Configure your pc or laptop to boot in the cd drive,

Insert the CD and it would boot then just disable the password and restart.

Took about 5 minutes for the whole process.

I'm currently unable to install sound driver for gateway laptop model MX6024

as long as you have the correct drivers this should work transfer the files from the source onto a file on your computer boot in safe mode and install the drivers from file, as your dvd-cd will not work in safe mode or boot in safe mode with network support and install from gateway website

Need to perform factory restoe on compaq nc4400 laptop. laptop has no disc drive, i do have an external memory to store data on

A program called Ultimate Boot CD for Windows might be of assistance, personally I have never used the program but its intentions are to allow you to create a boot cd (or possibly a boot flash drive) to actually boot the entire OS, desktop and everything directly from the flash drive so nothing ever hits the hard drive. However your intentions are to probably try and reinstall the os by booting the setup cd from a flash drive instead of the cds but i'm sure it can help do that as well.

Another attempt might be (if your laptop can boot from a flash drive and is set to do so) copy the entire contents of the restore disk(s) to a flash drive that is large enough to contain it all and have it boot from the flash drive. It should pull the bootup files necessary for it to run from the flash drive but it could also need some things set into it to instruct the computer how to boot it, and off hand I am uncertain of those things required.

This should be able to get you started anyways.

Good Luck
