When pluged in the red light is on. The computer either doesn't recognize it or it just doesn't work other than the power. I just loaded a few files on it then it stoped working all together. We should have bought Seagate and we we would'nt have this problem. I am sure you guys are agervated with this problem as well. By the way I already took mine apart to see what the deal was. I was wondering if you were talking about the stiker in the middle that says will void warranty?

Hey! i was having the same problem, but it all seemed to be fine after i opened the case up... what you see inside is a hard drive connected to a small circuit board used to make that hard drive interface with the computer. basically what happened with mine, and probably yours was that the hard drive slipped out of the socket on that circuit board- the drop it took was probably JUST enough to make that happen, given that there's some room inside the case for it to slide a little.

if you don't mind potentially voiding your warranty, i'd suggest you do what i did:

- keep the drive unplugged from everything
- peel off the sticker underneath to access the screws
- slide the hard drive back into the socket on the little green board where the USB sockets are
- close it back up and test it out.

this worked just fine for me, and i hope it works for you too! it also saved what might have been ****-loads of money taking it to a recovery specialist :D

good luck!

The hard disk is physically damaged and you need to take it to a data recovery center. Ask some PC tech if they know of one close by or search on google or lookup in the yellow pages.

Simpletech external hd 250 Gb is not reckon by vista (though was before) but works ok on XP. USBs are ok. It appears in disk management (says it is working properlly but no letter asigned to it) but does...

You need to partition it and format it inside of disk manager. You can do this by right clicking on the device (the gray box next to where it said there was no letter assigned)and selecting initialize.

Simpletech 500 GB external hard drive - unresponsive

If you really can not get it to work anymore, you could try opening it up and connecting the hdd directly on a IDE/SATA port in your computer. This will only work if you have a desktop, for a laptop you would need all kinds of converters.
