Hitachi 50v500 50"

After watching my hitachi 50v500 50" a weird blue blob runs from the top and slowly runs towards the bottom. I think that it might be some sort of condensation inside the tv because it like dries up after a while but then when it gets hot again it starts all over again. Also its near the window so im not sure if thats the problem. thanks

I have the same problem. I have 2 big blue blobs across the television. I've had 2 different repair companies tell me that the engine light has gone bad and will cost me $800.00 - $1,000.00 to have it repaired.

I had a growing, shifting blue patch on the screen of my 50" Hitachi hdtv. It signifies a dying light engine. Hitachi will provide the part free of charge if you call their customer service number. It's a good thing because the part (essentially the core of the TV) costs from $600 refurbished to $1200 new. I had to pay for the labor, which in my case was about $300. Not good, but Hitachi acknowledges that the part was poorly designed and overheats, so they will do that much. The new light engines are re-engineered, I was told. Move asap, because if your set is more than two years old, they are crankier about providing the part.

The unit requires a replacment optic block to correct the problem your experiancing
if you are the original owner you may contact hitachi customer relations and they may opt to supply a remanufactured optic block and you would be responsible for the labor but still cheap enough and you get a good working set again

There is a green hue around the objects and people on the screen how do i fix this

Hope it is just cleaning take off the front screen. I think on that model remove the speaker covers, and a row of screws holding the bottom of the screen remove them. Watch the wires to the front buttons there may be a connector or two to undo. Carefully lift up and toward you WATCH THE WIRES. With a dry clean cloth wipe off the three CRT tops and the back mirror. Put back together and see.
If you still have a green hue.
Remove the screen again. With a flash light look down the CRT's if they a real cruddy down in the coolant yes there is liquid coolant in them. The red doesn't have this trouble but the blue and green can get contaminated. Also look for leaking of the coolant down on the boards. There are procedures to clean and repair leaks. Let me know.
There are a couple of focus procedures which I don't think is your issue.
Good luck Mark

Have changed the bulb because of yellow blob on the picture and it has made no difference

the yellow blob is from a fried polarizer on the blue lcd panel due to excessive dust and heat. you'll have to replace it, but hitachi doesn't sell individual optical engine parts, so you may have to replace the whole optical engine.

You have a defective light engine and you do not have to be under warranty for Hitachi to replace this part. We just went through this and here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them that you have a defective light engine. They will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area to call. Once a tech comes out and confirms that it's the light engine, call Hitachi back and they will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitachi will cover the cost of the part (cost $1500).

Here is the deal, if you're under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and the install. If you're not under warranty, all you pay is the install. Our install cost $400. Others on this site have paid $200. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to pay for the light engine part...you do not. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it for free. Also, deal only with Hitachi customer realations number that I listed. Good Luck!

To all that are experiencing the blue blob. This is result of poor maintenance. Projectors must be kept clean on all air intakes. This is to help you all understand the failure cause. Usally not worth repairing.
