You're in luck. Changing the keyboard is just about the easiest thing to do on a laptop. Google or go to amazon (or wherever you prefer) to find the least expensive replacement part. Then go to the service manual online for your laptop and it will show you how to remove and replace it. Don't let it freak you out. It's a fine place to start. Of course, just in case there's a loose connection inside, you may want to try taking it out now and reseating it. Your external keyboard works so it's not like you'll not be able to use it! Let me know if you have any questions.

6 of my keys quit working and I cannot put in my password to access the laptop. Is this a common problem?

Hi there.
It's not necessarily a common problem. You should try connecting an external keyboard using a USB connection and problem solved.

Cheers.

The character keys and numeral keys dont print only make a noice when pressed

From your query I interprete as they key is not displayed in the screen. First check with the external usb keyboard. If the external keyboard is also not working, please check the keyboard layout in the control panel regional settings. If the external keyboard is working well, change the laptop keyboard.

How do i turn on the blue tooth in my acer 5742 laptop?

Hi upch505,

Probably your laptop dosen't have bluetooth hardware in it.

Follow these steps:

1. Right click on My computer and click Manage
2. Then click on device manager on left panel

A list will appear which shows the hardware content of your laptop. If the list dosen't contain bluetooth device then it is confirmed that your laptop dosent have bluetooth hardware.

Try using external USB bluetooth device for your laptop.

Hope it helps.

Thank You for using Fixya.

The keyboard is not working

Hi,

Connect an external USB keyboard, if there's no problems with it then remove your laptop's keyboard. First: Disconnect the ribbon connection and reconnect again
Second: If that doesn't fix the problem
Third: Buy a replacement
If the external USB Keyboard doesn't work you may have some software issues
