Question about LG DLG3788W Gas Dryer
The dryer has started making a noise like there are tennis shoes in it, there is nothing in the dryer to cause this sound. I ran it without anything in it and it still makes the same noise. The dryer is not moving, rocking or bumping against anything. I do not see anything that would say there is a problem, just the noise.
My dryer just started making this noise. So I opened the back up to try to figure out what it might be, and when I opened it I saw something. It was part of the belt that drives the dryer. There are grooves vulcanized to the belt, and a small section of grooves or cogs I think is what they are called had come apart from the belt and what laying there on the floor of the dryer. But I ran it and timed the thumps in my head to get it to stop right on the "thump". Sure enough there was a small 1/2'' appx. of belt Cog missing, so the "thump" came from when the belt came around to the motor and the pulley hit a divit in the belt, "thump". So needless to say I need to replace the belt soon before it breaks completely. I figure that it looks like someone may benefit from knowing what the noise is. Now its off to find the proper belt and look up how to change those things...Good luck to those reading this.

I described the exact same thing to LG support, they were no help so i took it apart. I found that the drum is cracked at the seam where it's welded, right at the edge where the two wheels in the back of the dryer hit the crack and it makes the klunk. I actually saw where someone had stated this and chose to ignore it because it didn't seem to make sense until i took it apart and saw it for myselfe. Sorry dryer belt guy, i think if you have an LG you might be suffering the with the rest of us. it sounds like they have a manufacturing defect their not willing to deal with. mine lasted a year and a half, got the part from Sears for less than a hundred bucks. good luck.

Probably a loose baffle in the drum. (Or What Ever Those Little Fins Are Called)

I have the same thumping noise and it is a cracked drum. Exactly as wspringer1 described above. I will never buy LG products!!! My french door refrigerator developed electrical issued after 14 months. No help from LG. It was also advertised at Energy Star and is not. Class action suit that they settled. I also have a $450 LG microwave that is not as a $100 GE and a $900 dishwasher that doesn't clean dishes as well as my 10 year old kitchen-aid did.
Beware of all LG products. They look great, but don't perform well.

I seem to have the same problem, very loud noise when Drum turning like shoes in drum, seems loose and not turning smooth and even. I will open it up and see if it is any of these problems descibed. I think there is a roller as well that could be bad.
I will NEVER buy LG again, so far my warsher went bad with in 2 years, now dryer, 42" TV, and my Microwave.
