Question about Toshiba 50H81 50" Rear Projection Television
I know how to converge my TV set. The green on the screen seems to be a set color and it is distorted. It bows upwards which affects the Red and Blue. The middle and upward portion of the screen seem to work together but the rest is like a wave or bubble and the colors will not come together. When I do the auto convergence it gives me an "Convergence Error"
Hello, looking over what wrote, I have had a similar experience. Lets start by checking the location of your speakers, and subwoofer. The magnetic field from speakers can pull the color on your T.V. this would cause a rounded line. Also if you have cables going from your Cable box to a reciever you don't want to place these cables to close to the speakers either. Also do you have any equipment setting on top of your T.V. with the cables dropping down the back, can cause this as well. I hope this helps and we look forward to hearing back from you if this dosen't solve your problem. Also check for any magnets laying around the or on the TV I have kids and they set a referator magnet on mine and it pulled the color to the corner. Thank You and have a good evening

Your TV has gone crazy on you because your convergence IC's have gone bad.
These IC's operate at a very high temp, and usually only last 4-5 years.
If you remove the back of the set, you will want to look for the BIGGEST heatsink in there, on that heatsink, you will see 2 lage IC's , probably STK392-110, or STK392-120's or something close...regardless - you can go on ebay to order the new ones, but MAKE SURE they are Genuine SANYO IC's and not counterfiet cheapies. the cheap ones may only last 2 months..
You will also need some "Heat transfer paste" - you can pick this up at radio shack.
Once you remove the old IC's, test all the large resistors near them.. pull one side of the resistor out of the board so you can check it out of circuit. they will usually have the value in Ohms, printed directly on the resistor, but you may have to use the resistor color code to find out what value they are....However, usually if there is any damage, the resistor will look like it has been HOT or fried. replace the IC's and any bad resistors, and you should be good to go. If you need to order a resistor or two,
If after replacing the IC's and any defective resistors, the convergence is still bad, make sure to use a multimeter to check ALL fuses on the boards, --- sometimes when the IC's go, they will take out a fuse to the convergence power supply. If you find any bad fuses, replace them accordingly!
If this STILL doesnt make it look right, you will need to find out how to get into service mode and do a coarse convergence adjustment. This information can be found in the Service manual for your set. If you dont have one you can download it at manualuniverse.com
Hope that helps!
