Hi, I can't sync my SE P1i with my laptop (Compaq Presario M2000). I even tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the SE PC Suite for Smartphones (thrice) but no dice. Can someone please tell me what the problem is and how it can be sorted out?
If you experience problems when using the USB cable during synchronisation:
Check that the USB cable is properly connected to the phone and the computer.
Make sure the phone is turned on.
Restart the computer, without disconnecting the USB cable or turning off the phone, and try to synchronise again.
If you still experience problems using synchronisation software, e.g. Sony Ericsson PC Suite or Active Sync, try to uninstall and reinstall the program you are using.
this might be the case. if not enable active sync on phne
good luck
Thanks, but I already tried all the solutions you listed, except for the last. Could you please tell me how to enable Active Sync on the phone?

Hi I have some experience with this problem and found two solutions:
One is to always keep phone software version and sync software version matched. If you didnt upgrade phone version you should stick with the sync application in your original CD!
If you upgraded to the latest phone version please use the latest sync version that was available at that time! Or, even better, ask the person who upgraded your phone to recommend the best sync version.
Two is to always exit all running applications before starting to sync since some files may be marked as "in use" and the backup process will not be completed. How to do that? goto Task Manager -> Open -> More -> End All and press the back button.
Other solutions I got from an SE technician:
Remove sync software before upgrading or reinstalling it.
Try to install on a different PC.
Format the Memory Card (AFTER YOU BACK IT UP!)
Install Outlook and only then the sync app.
I am upset over Sony Ericsson’s PC suite for SmartPhone. I’ve had Sony Ericsson’s P1i for a couple of months now and honestly the phone is great.
I have a 1GB memory stick on my P1i which has every almost every function those items have. In fact now I have a QWERTY pad along with me all the time.
Well everything was perfect until I decided to upgrade my software. So I did these following steps:
Installed Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphone, which was included in the box. Downloaded and installed the Sony Ericsson P1i Update Service software. Used the Backup Manager that came along with SE PC Suite to backup every single content of my phone. Ran Update Service following the steps provided in the software. Lastly tried to Restore my backup onto my phone. Guess what? It didn’t work!!! Ran a full backup and the PC Suite froze at like the 30th percent with a message “Mobile phone not responding….”. I selected all these to restore:
Contacts Calendar Notes Unified Inbox Settings Multimedia 3rd Party Applications Bull Poop!!! I tried to run it 3 times and still didn’t work. When did the phone stop responding? When the PC Suite rebooted the phone and P1i screen prints “Restore in progress”. Its a piece of **** I tell you. I googled in hope that someone would shed light on me. That was when I discovered previous versions of Sony Ericsson SmartPhones had a similar problem too. In case you are wondering, the phone models I am talking about are SE’s P990i and M600i and their variations. I am so bloody disappointed. I can’t believe it could hang on me when I feel the phone had been great all the time.
Well now comes to the shitty part of trouble shooting. I can’t possibly let go of my backups. I’ve already lost all my Contacts and stuff 2 months ago. Can’t let this happen again. So I tried to restore one item at a time.
I went down the list of priorities as such:
Contacts - Success! Calendar - Success! Notes - Success! Unified Inbox - Success! Settings - Success! Multimedia - Success! 3rd Party Applications - Success! Wierd isn’t it? It works when you try to restore one item at a time but not when you select all. How can this be? Software problem!!! Developers at Sony should look into this. I didn’t have this problem with Nokia E65 when I helped my brother do an upgrade.
What’s the point of having a full restore function when it doesn’t work??? And if the problem had been surfaced by the users of the previous models, why isn’t the problem solved still? Can’t possibly blame Symbian for Sony Ericsson’s PC Suite, could we?…
so i gone to sony service they told me that there is a fault in circuit board and it has to be raplaced with a new one i had given in mulund service centre till now 12 days had passed they not given me my p1i saying that the circuitboard is sent to chennai and there is not extar manufacturing of board due to this we cant give the phone now they are saying come within 3days i am fadeup with these sony service and p1i i am requesting sony to look on this matter and tofind solution on it by upgrading there new upgrading version
