Would I need to uninstall the software for my usb wireless stick before my built in wireless will work after I run the DPINST32EXT,because there is a choice in the manager for the usb wireless stick that says use this ativa utility to control my wireless connections.

I do thank you for all your help.

I did install the intel drivers and when I push the switch over on my laptop to see if it will turn green and pick up a wireless signal it did nothing,so would it do any good to remove the usb wireless software,or is there something else going on with my laptop that needs attention.

Yes, you will need drivers for your wireless card.

You can download them here.

It seems Fixya does not allow inserting ftp addresses.
Here is the address, copy it to your browser:

    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/extensa_5220/vista/Drivers/Wireless_Intel_4965_3945_v11_1_0_86_vista.zip

Just go to folder Intel\Drivers and run DPInst32.exe.

That depends on the compatibility of the drivers. Most likely everything will be just fine without removing the other drivers, but in some cases, there can be problems. You should try and install these Intel drivers, and see what happens. If you get to separate Wireless Network Connections, the problem is solved. If you get only one, try removing the drivers for your USB Wireless.

On the other hand, if you do not need two wireless connections at the same time, remove USB wireless adapter, remove drivers you have installed, and install new ones.

Please go to Network Connections in Control Panel. How many connections do you see?

    Can you list them here?

Can you also open Device Manager and see if the wireless device is listed there?

It appears that the installation of the drivers for your onboard wireless adapter has failed. Try to remove existing wireless drivers used by your USB wireless adapter, as well as the ones you installed recently for your onboard adapter, if they exist in Add/Remove Programs applet. Then try to install Intel Wireless drivers again.

On the other hand, problem might be with your on/off switch. If you have LED indicator for your wireless network on laptop, and it does not light up when you press the switch, it might point that there is a hardware failure on onboard wireless device. In this case, I recommend going to the shop and asking for a refund, or replacement laptop.

LED must light up (if it exists) if you turn on the wireless device on your laptop, regardless of existence of the drivers.

How can i factory set my acer extensa 5220

Hi,
To restore your laptop you need the restore cd/dvd that came with your laptop when you bought it.
Please be adviced that restoring your laptop will cause you to lose all your data. Backup any data you would like to keep, to an externad drive or usb.

To restore your laptop do the following:
Insert the restore cd in your cd/dvd drive and restart your computer.
When you see the message "Press any key to boot from cd" press enter.
Then follow the on screen instructions to restore your laptop.

Regards,
nicolasiac

you shouldn't have a problem, Vista uses Realtek high definition audio, assuming this is the sound make you use you need to install the normal Realtek audio driver, see below:-
