Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

"Normal" picture option is gone

I was watching TV in normal mode and it suddenly switched to zoom, and there is no option to go back to normal....only full/zoom/wide zoom. The option doesn't show in menus either.

Re: "Normal" picture option is gone

Have you switched inputs? Some sets when you are on component/ HDMI/DVI will only allow a couple of PIX modes, Antenna will usually allow you to use all of your modes, If you have a cable box they sometimes will also have format modes. Try switching to cable channel 3 (if you get it or have a box on that) and changing format, try a VCR or something if no cable ch 3.

How do we get the picture back to normal? The picture seems to be stuck in a zoom mode. The wide button does not fix this.

its probably a zoom setting on your cable or sat box.

sat - push the format button at the top or bottom of the remote to switch modes

cable -
go in to the cablebox menu, go to video settings, make sure its set to 1080i and 480i for 4:3 over ride, not stretch or zoom

Have an lcd2010a wharfedale colour tv since 2005. It is out of warranty. Problem. switch on tv obtain sound and picture for 1 to 2 hours or even less 45 min. Then suddenly no picture, but sound or nothing...

try removing and re-installing the lamp cover on the back.
its a known issue with whaferdale tv's during manufacture, the lamp cover is not seated properly causing the safety switch to not engage all the way, when the lamp cover heats up and expands, it fall away further from the switch tripping it, shutting the set down.
when you remove and re-install the lamp cover, after you take the single ***** out, tilt the cover out and forward from the top about 3/4 of the way out and then tilt it back into normal position and put the ***** back.

TV is stuck in expanded picture mode & won't return to normal

seems to me as a Sony TV. The sony tv has this feature ready in the menu. you can do zoom out ,standard etc,
But the real problem comes when the tv is turn off and then you get back to turn on the tv (lets say next day)and you find the same big heads.
what you have to do is going to the menu same thing but this time look for an option is called picture size default. This option make learn the memory what size you want custom when tv is turn on.This function is in the same page as the picture size page (refer to the user's manual) but has to be the default mode where you want the change.
The problem with sizes now days is some shows fit perfect some others not. and besides that the cable box has those features too(change size of the screen)

What i do in this sony tv to start first is keeping it in the standard size in the tv menu and i defaulted too.

when some size adjustment is needed i do it in the cable box remote control .Once again this example i do it in SONY tv, Maybe you have to post the problem again if the tv is different brand.

the cable remote has a zoom feature in the settings. the zoom setting got turned on somehow. This feature overrides the picture size settings on the tv.
so, not a tv problem at all, but easily missed.

I have a T5054 TV and the picture has zoomed in and is way too big, however in the picture settings menu the zoom option is not highlighted in Component mode.

There could be a problem, but verify the settings as listed in the owner's manual as follows:

1 Press the MENU button to display the menu.
Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Picture, then press the ENTER button.
2 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Size, then press the ENTER button.
3 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the screen format you want.
Press the ENTER button.
Press the EXIT button to exit.
16:9 : Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
Zoom1 : Magnifies the size of the picture on the screen.
Zoom2 : Expands the Zoom1 format picture.
Wide Fit : Enlarges the aspect ratio of the picture to fit the entire screen.
4:3 : Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode.
Just Scan : Use this function to see the full image without any cutoff when DTV
or HDMI 720p/1080i signals are input.
Press the P.SIZE button on the remote control to change the picture size.

And realize the restrictions as listed:

• In TV, VIDEO, S-VIDEO, and COMPONENT(480i, 480p) modes, all screen
modes can be selected. (16:9 ➞ Zoom1 ➞ Zoom2 ➞ 4:3)
• In COMPONENT(720p, 1080i) or HDMI(720p, 1080i) mode, 16:9, 4:3 and
Wide Fit can be selected.
• In Zoom1, Zoom2 and Wide Fit modes, you can move the picture on the
screen by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button.
•You can not change the picture size when PIP is set to Double.
•When Double ( , ) mode has been set in PIP, the Picture Size cannot
be set.
•Wide Fit can be used when watching a Digital HD (High Definition) signal.
Wide Fit sets the optimum picture format by expanding it both horizontally and
vertically. For example, you can reset the picture in 4:3 format to 16:9. Wide Fit
does not support all external devices (DVD, VCR etc.).

Keep us posted.

The problem with my NEC 68T90 TV is that the screen resolution is not correct. At 4:3 ratio, I can't see the sides of any video or TV program that I'm watching. Is there a problem with the hardware?

Try the aspect button on your remote, or if you have this hooked up to a cable or satellite converter, there are screen resolution preferences, you can change the screen resolution here, go the the menu portion and look for video/audio field
