Question about Viking VGIC305-4B Gas Kitchen Range

Turn on oven and broiler comes on.

The broiler ingnites at any temp. I should only come on if its set to broil any reason why this is happening

    unfortunately that is not the answer. The oven is suppose to heat from the bottom up and the air moves around the oven(convection). Now what is happening is the broiler part of the oven is coming on at any temp. It should only come on if I turn the knob to broil. Ex. cooking a pizza if the broil mechanism comes on the cheese burns but the pizza doesn't cook. the broiler is on top and heats downward.

If the broiler burner is the only burner, then it should come on. If there are two burners, chances are the broiler burner comes on to get the oven heated up more quickly. Once near temperature, the other burner maintains temperature.

Check your owner manual to confirm.

    Some thoughts -

    How long do you let the oven heat up before putting the pizza inside? Do you let the oven temp indicator light go off before putting the pizza in?
    What temperature do you set the oven temperature for to cook pizza?

    Depending on your answers above, it may be the temperature controller, and for the problem you state, I would expect the oven temperature to not be controllable. In other words, if you set the temperature for 350 degrees, the oven goes to maybe 550, or when you set the oven for 450, the oven reaches maybe 550.

    Let me know your answers to the above, and I'll see if I can track down a wiring diagram and service manual.

Bake and broiler element come on when bake is selected. Why?


Understand that I am not a professional, so this answer is subject to revision by someone who is more knowledgeable.

Where I live now I'm on Natural Gas, but in the past I've had electric stove/ovens. Based on my best recall the situation you describe is NOT abnormal.

When in the Broil mode, the Bake element is NOT on, but the Broil element is on FULL-bore to provide that strong radiant heat required for the Broiling process, AND for the good browning /crusting of the product being Broiled!!!!!

On the other hand, when Baking, not broiling, IF the Broiling element were on high it would provide too much radiant heat to the top of the product being Baked, and would burn the top.

While Baking, by energizing the Broil element in a lower power setting, the Baking process is enhanced with more heat by the assistance of the Broiler element, BUT without the hazard of burning on the top!!!!!

the broil element
is the heating element that is found at the top of the oven and produces a very high heat for broiling. If the broil element isn't working, you should first do a visual inspection for signs that the element has blistered or separated. If the element appears normal then you can check for continuity with a multi-meter. Remove power from the appliance before performing this test. Remove the back panel and locate the terminals for the broil element and inspect the terminals and wires for signs of overheating or damage.

If there is no continuity then the element will need to be replaced. If the wires are damaged then they will need to be repaired. If the element is ok then you will need to check the broil circuit to determine the cause. This involves live voltage checks and should only be performed by qualified persons. Components to check include fuses, if the range is equipped, and oven control thermostat or electronic control.

Ran self clean now oven will not heat up


Turn the breaker off for 5 minutes then turn it back on see if this helps if not let me know.

I have a 4 yr old kenmore glasstop electric range. Problem exists with the broiler as it comes on when I set the oven to bake.


this is normal
about 8 years ago manufactures started to include the broil element in the preheat cycle to heat the oven faster
it should cycle down once the set temp is reached

The oven gas valve coil has failed Need to replace. Go to repairclinic.com and put in the model and order the coil for the valve. It controls the gas valve.

My Hotpoint RB536 range's broiler will not turn off. I bought it used and suspect that a switch is connected wrong. I need a wiring diagram of the panel of switches to sort this out.


I would say you have a stuck relay on your control board. what happens when you unplug and plug back in? does the broiler turn on by itself or do you have to turn it on? Does the broiler cycle on and off or is is constintaly on all the time? Do you have a control board to turn the broiler on or is it a machanical dial? If you have to press a button to turn the broiler on i would say 99% positive you have a stuck relay on your control board. slide range out of the hole remove the back panel to access the control board. you will see these black little boxs on the board and marked on your board you will see bake and broil and both of them have 2 wires on them. on the broil relay should have 2 red wires going to it. unplug power to the range. remove the 2 wires from the relay check continuity accross the relay. you should not have continuity if you do this is the reason your broiler is stuck on. plug thhe wires back in to the board..... And if you feel comfortable enough plug the power back in. with wires plugged into board sett your meter to volts AC. put them straight accross the broil relay. in a normaly off poistion you should read 120 volts. With a bad broil relay in the off position you will read 0volts. try these things and let me know how it goes.

GE Electric Stove Broiler doesn't stay on


If the door is closed the broil element will cycle off an on normally. It should stay on most of the time if the door is in the broil position (partially open). If your range has an electronic control it will probably also have a hi and low broil setting. On low broil it will cycle off an on even with the door open but more with the door closed

Kenmore oven does not seem to be turning off.
