The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead. The tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignment, have colors shadows pictures or 3D pictures look alike. The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead too. These parts on the tv convergence board, must be replaced to solved the tv picture convergence problems. The shop, will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
This sounds Like the the coolant for your piture tube has become cloudy and needs replacement (usually blue or green tube - thats why the image seems ovrely red). It's a big job (labour wise) since completee dissassembly is required ($200-300). It can be done youreself - check out TVrepairkits.com to get the coolant and instructions.
You can confirm that this is the problem by dissassembling the unit to the point where you can view the face of the CRT's (red green and blue) directly.
If you have not already done so go into the picture menu and set the convergence. The convergence is the angle at which the three picture tubes meat at a given distance. The tv will have at least 3 and up to 64 convergence points, and those 64 can be set for all three colors. This can be tiresome but I'll be it will solve your problem. What your trying to do is get the color in the cross-hair so you cannot see the color behind the target. On top of the fine setting for each point and color you will probably have 3 gross adujustments for blue and green and maybe red. These adjustments will affect positioning, like what you are discribing. You should do this at least every month, the thermal cycleing of the lamps is what will cause this to creep out of adjustment.
sounds like youre describing a convergence problem. Do the letters look like theyre 3D?
