Question about Beckett Water Gardening Beckett Statuary Pond Pump, 250 Gph

GFI for pump keeps tripping...

The GFI that my Beckett pond pump is plugged into, keeps tripping, but will pump for say, 15 seconds before it trips off. When we unplug the pump, the GFI stays in the "in" position and does not trip. We have tried plugging the Beckett pump into other outlets, and it does not work. Does this mean there is a short in the pump or in the electrical system??? Kathy in Tucson

Joe - I have had the pump for awhile, bought it new. It was in the pond working fine, and this problem just occurred. Actually, since I have written the question, we took the pump OUT of the water and are letting it dry out to see if it will work.

Is this a new pump or is it a problem that just started? Is it a new GFCI outlet? Joe

try puling the GFCI out of it's box, use electrical tape to wrap the outlets teminals and grounding connectorss. GFCI's are very sensitive to it's hot, neutral and grounding location within a metal box.

Only if you want to burn the house down. A 20A GFCI maximum overcurrent device is 20A providing it is wired with #12 copper if they used #14 copper wiring the max overcurrent device is 15 A

rusty pump & moisture on copper windings leaks active, neutral back to earth on your pump & trips your breaker.

Pump keeps tripping gfi outlet

That means the GFCi is doing what it supposed to do...shutting off the circuit in the event of a fault. Repair or replace the pump. You can plug something else into the GFCI to test the outlet itself

Little Giant pump WGP-90-PW trips GFI circuit

You might have 2 problems. The GFIC might be wired wrong or the pump wirng might be compromised with moisture. The noise issue? Are you running this unit without submersing it? They will burn out if you do. To get a more accurate running sound, submerse it with a flexible pipe so you can run it in a 5 gal bucket without losing the water.
It's possible a bearing is burned out.

Pump plugged in to grounded receptacle trips the

If by "trips the breaker" you mean the GFI then you are leaking current to ground, GFI's trip when there is an imbalance between the current going to the motor on the HOT side and returning from the motor on the NEUTRAL side, if it is tripping the GFI it is likely the sign of a failing motor.

Our hot tub keeps tripping the gfi breaker, but if we don't put it on a gfi then it works fine. How do you fix this

The GFI is sensing a fault, and tripping to protect you. If there is another GFI in the circuit somewhere then you could use that normal receptacle. I mean if there is a GFI in the main panel.

Where the wire goes into the pump there is a o ring thatis probably leaking and any sort of water the motor might be getting is tripping the breaker. You probably have it plugged into a gfi and it sense very low amounts of water, and trips, You can determine by plugging it into a regular outlet and it should work. But definently fix the oring at the point of entry on the pump

Pond pump trips circuit breaker

The circuit breaker trips because there is an electrical short in the pump itself or in the wire feeding the pump. A cause of this could be a bare wire, or a crack in a wire. Remove the pump and put it in a five gallon pail of water and test it. If it still trips the breaker you will know the problem is in the pump or the cord to the pump.
