Shutter stays closed on bronica 645 etr medium format

With lens attached and regardless of shutter speed setting, pressing the shutter release results in shutter leaves closing and remaining closed. no light will go through lens and obviously then, no image on film. battery is new and was checked for power, all OK. any ideas why camera is not reading shutter speed or is it lens? i will add that this is happening with three separate lenses so i suspect the camera.

Since the problem occurs with several lenses it is not a shutter problem. Taking a picture, the shutter closes, the mirror comes up, the shutter reopens and closes. Signals from the body cause these actions. It is probably a bad connection or broken wire in the body.

Have the electronic shutter checked by a repair shop. Sounds like your Seiko electronic shutter has died or there's a short somewhere between shutter and lens. Hope this helps.

You should check the exact sequence of events. If the camera is working normally, the following should happen:
1) You press the shutter button, and the shutter closes momentarily to commence the exposure. 2) The mirror rises and the shutter opens again. 3) At the end of the exposure the shutter closes and remains so. 4) You wind on, and the mirror is lowered and the shutter reopens.
If the issue is simply that the shutter stays closed at the end of the exposure (which is indicated by a flash of the battery test LED), then that's normal.
If, however, the shutter is not reopening after the mirror rises to make the exposure then you have a fault in the camera body.

Well, if you don't have film in the camera it will only operate at 1/500 sec shutter speed. I hope this solves your problem.

Bronica SQ-Ai shutter problem

There could be a number of issues with this problem. Make sure the contacts at the rear of the lens and those on the body that connect with those on the lens are clean and straight. If so, the problem may be in the shutter within the lens. There is a magnet inside the shutter that sometimes becomes contaminated and fails to hold the shutter blades open for the selected shutter speed. The face of the magnet may need to be cleaned. There are also timing switches that sometimes go bad or need adjusting. These internal problems need to be taken care of by a competent technician since the lens needs to be completely disassembled. I have also seen these shutters go bad and need to be replaced. Let's hope that's not the problem because it will be difficult to get a new shutter for the lens--but not imposible. God luck.
