The attachments move up on the shaft

When you have your ingrediants in the bowl and you raise the bowl up the wisk or beater slides up on the shaft and does not mix to the bottom of the bowl. On our smaller mixer there is a spring and washer that holds the wisk down in position. Need an answer or solution. Thanks

Beater is not close enough to bowl

If it is a ksm103 there should be a spring on the shaft, it should look similar to this: http://www.mendingshed.com/kacentershaft.html

When adjusting the screw you should be turning it out, which will make the beater closer to the bottom of the bowl, when properly adjusted you should be able to place a dime in the bowl, and the flat beater should just move it around barely. that would be about 1/16" in clearance.

When raised to do whipping my professional 550 hd mixer attachment does not scrap the bowl to mix properly

You can adjust the mixer bowl up and down slightly. If you lower your bowl and look at the back you will see a little screw, it looks like a flat head screw and it is on the "neck" of the mixer.
You can raise and lower the bowl by adjusting this cam screw. You can tell that your bowl is adjust correctly by attaching the flat beater and put a dime in the bottom of the bowl, the beater should just barely touch the dime and move it around the bottom of the bowl.

The beater will not scrape the sides of the bowl, if you are wanting the sides of the bowl scraped I would recommend the Flex Edge Beater made by KitchenAid which is basically a flat beater with a rubberized edge which will scrape the side of the bowl as it rotates.

Here is a link to the flex edge beater on our website: http://www.mendingshed.com/kfe6l.html

Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model at Kitchenaid.com
Download the following Kitchenaid Service Manual:
http://www.kitchenaidparts.be/centers/servicemanual/mixer.pdf

It covers several models including yours.
1. Check/Adjust the Flat Beater to Bowl Clearance:

Turn screw (A) SLIGHTLY counter clockwise (left) to raise the flat

beater or clockwise (right) to lower the flat beater
2. Check the Beater Shaft (Agitator Shaft) making sure the Retaining ring
is flushed with the surface of the Planetary Assembly
Constant Pulling and Removal of the beaters can cause the Agitator shaft to move
3. If the above two still don't solve your problem, follow the service manual
directions to disassemble the Planetary Assembly and check for loose screws

Hi, I have this mixer for 5 years now and never had a problem until today. I was making bread using the mixer and all of a sudden, the hook started scraping the bowl and taking off the paint. It is as if...

Attach the Flat Beater to the Beater Shaft, and raise the bowl.
If the beater touches the bottom of the bowl then inspect the
Agitator shaft : the retaining ring should be leveled with the
surface of the Planetary. If not, then of course the bottom of
the beater will start scraping the bowl. You can use a rubber
mallet to tap the shaft back in.

Hi FMOINIZ, by the symptom you are describing, you need to adjust your mixer’s Bowl to Beater Clearance. Bowl too low

Hi, JAKELEGJEETE, You don’t say if you have a ‘tilt-head’ or a ‘bowl-lift' mixer, but you can easily download a PDF version of your Owners Manual from the KA website at: (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number (in your case, use KSM5PS)and select the last file listed that appear under Owners Manuals: and save that file to your PC. You’ll need to have Adobe Reader to be able to open it. Turn to Page 11 and you will find the instructions for adjusting the Beater to Bowl Clearance. I have extracted the instructions below:

Your mixer is adjusted at the factory so that the flat beater just clears the bottom of the bowl. If for any reason, the flat beater hits the bottom of the bowl or is too far away from the bowl, clearance.

Tilt-Head models
• Unplug mixer.
• Lift motor head.

• Turn screw (A) SLIGHTLY counter clockwise (left) to raise flat beater or clockwise (right) to lower flat beater.

If you over adjust the screw, the bowl lock lever may not lock into place.

Bowl-Lift models
• Unplug mixer.
• Place bowl lift handle in down position.

• Turn screw (B) SLIGHTLY counter clockwise (left) to raise flat beater and clockwise (right) to lower flat beater.

Kitchenaid beater rubs bottom of the bowl

Your beater to bowl clearance has come out of alignment. This can happen naturally over time and with normal use of the appliance. This is something you may correct from home using a flathead screwdriver.

Unplug the mixer, with the bowl and flat beater removed. Tilt the mixing head back as far as the machine will allow. In the exposed hinge, behind where the bowl would normally sit, you will see a 3/8 screw exposed. Turn this screw half a turn counterclockwise (to your left) in order to raise the flat beater from the bottom of the bowl.

This may take a few attempts until the beater is clearing the bottom of the bowl again. If the adjustment screw will no longer turn, do not force it. It is only designed to move so far to make the appropriate adjustment.

Be cautious. Raising the flat beater too high may leave dry ingredients at the bottom of the bowl.

If further information is needed, I would advise you to contact Kitchenaid Customer Service. They may walk through this adjustment through you over the phone and can look into ordering replacement beaters for you also.

Their toll-free telephone number is 1-800-541-6390.

KitchenAid 575 Professional Mixer

Read the instruction manual. There is a screw to adjust the beater height, it is where the mixer joins to the stand.

Incomplete mixing

You need to raise the bowl just a little less than the thickness of the layer presently being left behind. Too much and the beaters will touch the bowl .
