Question about HP Compaq Evo N1000v Notebook
For months I've had a persistent crackling sound coming from the modem as I attempted to log on making it difficult to get a high enough kbps ratio. I'm on dial-up and thought it might be the telephone line. Had the line checked, it wasn't. This went on for months. Then 2 days ago had a loud screeching sound followed by a freezing of the attempt to log on. I had to shut down the computer manually using the off-on button. This was the beginning of the cursor freezing and multiple crashes as I attempted to log on, off, or as I tried to work online. I tried downloading another modem driver which only speeded up the computer somewhat. I tried running a System Restore (I have Windows XP Professional) which did nothing to alleviate the problem. I think I may need a new modem. If anyone has a diagnosis and a solution to the problem I'm having would appreciate your input. The modem I have is a Conexant HSF V92 56K PCI Modem. If it is the modem, where's the best place to get them? Thanks. JO
This is one place to start looking. Good prices. Usually when modems start acting up, it's less of a headache to just replace it.
