Sony 5 disc dvd player - discs lock in - spinner needs push to go

Our 5 disc dvd player has not been working for a while - I took the cover off to see if my son had perhaps put an extra disc in there and just noticed that the spinner was not spinning the discs. They lock in properly and once I gave the spinner a little push it took off and all 5 discs played on our TV. I put the box back on and am now having the same problem....is there some product to spray on the spinner to loosen it - like a wd 40? I don't want to ruin it but also don't want to pay for service since I know what the problem is!

You can spray WD-40 contact cleaner but very little amount in spindle motor (you call it spinner) and please take care, DO NOT spray over optical lens which is so close to spindle motor.

If problem still exist, you need to replace optical lens assembly and I will provide you part number if required.
Good Luck.

Hello. I am having a similar problem, My DVP-NC600 wont even pick up the disc. It was working fine, then one day it didnt. First off, after inserting disc in carasuol, I press the close button and it starts closing as normal. Then when it gets about an inch or two from fully closed, it stalls and slows then closes. After it finally closes, It will not pick up the disc at all. Then 5 seconds into it, the carasuol opens back up with a little stall at first in the same spot when it closes. Please help, I really love this unit and am not looking forward to replacing it... Thanks, Rob.

Why does my sony DVP display "No Disc" for every disc; when they play fine in any other player?

Sony tend to have a notorious disc lasers... couple of things you might want to try..

1. clean the lens using a standard Lens cleaning CD.
2. Try playing a CD (music) instead of DVD (if this works...it is likely that the lens is not reading DVD)

Sony CDP-C910 will no longer play cds or eject changer cartridge

Mine did the same thing. My player was primarily used in the garage and the cold weather may have caused my player to do the same thing. I just fixed my player. I removed the top cover and looked at the CD in the play position. In the upper right corner from the CD, you will see a spindle motor with a belt on it. Gently spin the motor back and forth carefully with your finger. I rotated it a half-spin in either direction, careful not to dislodge the belt. When I turned the player back on, the mechanism operated as it normally would and began playing the disc. I was able to eject and reinsert the magazine without any issues, solving the problem. Hopefully that will work for you.

Find the electrical motor and try to turn it with your fingers, it should move the gears in order to release mechanism. It its stops and no movement, turn the motor the other way.

DVD Scratches

i think its the player, the distance of the spindle motor spinner is quite near the pick-up assembly that is why slight vibrations affects the unit.

Locked??

I had this problem, it was a jammed disc. I disconnected the dvd player and removed the cover. Then I checked out the trays and sure enough a disc was jammed. It took a bit of very gentle work to free the disc as the jammed tray needed to be unlocked so the tray self slid and released the offending disc. Once that was done I placed the cover back on and reconnected the wiring...and all was well.

Cannot Close Sony DVP-NC665P 5 disk tray

There is a possiblity that he may have shifted the unit while discs were in it causing the discs to slip off the tray and into the unit. You have to open the unit to check if there are loose discs.
