Question about Brother HL 5250DN Laser Printer

I have a brother HL5250DN not printing well

I just replaced the toner cartridge - with an off brand from ClickInk. Supposed to be compatible. I am getting the toner, but there are light spots on the page and some sense of toner sprinkle marks. I havecleaned the wires and have wiped the cylinder thingy with a soft lint free cloth. Could it be that the new cartidge is cold (just delivered sat outside a while in frigid temps).

Thank you! I actually was using a compatible cartidge and it has worked fine, but it is not from the same place nor can I recall where the other came from! I think you may be right, though.

I think the most likely reason is not cleaning the drum before inserting. I sometimes do it manually (if you were pushing your previous toner to go the distance, the ionization fails after a while and some of the excess toner does not get ionized and thus ends up splattering on the page). After you do it manually, move the drum thingamagig (blue arrow) back and forth, see if it helps.

I've had mine out in the cold before, that didn't cause any problems. However, if you were cold when you opened the box (or if the delivery guy tossed it around), sometimes that can cause the toner to shift and spill (sucks, I know).

Also, like the previous poster, I also recommend genuine cartridges.
If you want to make them go the extra mile (like you run out too soon), you can do 2 things:
A). set your pinter to toner saver mode (esp. if you are printing things to read not turn in, etc. --- this is in the printer properties menu, second tab, "Toner Saver Mode" check "On")

B). this is from some DIY site, so proceed with caution... but I love this solution. Buy some black electrical tape and cover up the two plastic (transparent) windows on the sides of the cartridge (one is on the surface, one is slightly below the black plastic -- but it's fine to just tape the little hole in the plastic shut). The toner level is measured with a laser, apparently, and when the level is below the height of the beam, you will get a toner low message. But there may be another 30% of your toner in there, so when they

well.. I accidentally submitted without finishing... Yes, so they re-manufacture the cartridge, but they have to put less toner in it. Meanwhile, you pay a fortune for each cartridge.

Also, if you need it, to reset the toner light/drum light -- open the lid (where the cartridge goes) and press the go button until all 3 lights light up and flash and you're all set for a while.

Bad toner cartridge. Compatibility is a 4 letter word. Send it back and invest in GENUINE Brother Cart.

Is it really going to wreck my printer if I use "Brother compatible" instead of actual name brand toner?

If the toner cartridge comes from a reputable source, there should not be any problem. I have used compatible cartridges for years

When replacing the toner cartridge, you MUST install a brand new, unused genuine Brother toner cartridge in order to reset the toner status. Swapping toner cartridges from one machine to another or installing a partially used toner cartridge may cause this problem. Brother machines control their image quality for the most suitable print quality by monitoring toner consumption. If you install a partially used toner cartridge, your Brother machine is unable to recognize toner consumption correctly which will cause this problem. Therefore, when you replace the toner cartridge, please use a brand new toner cartridge, not a partially used toner cartridge from another machine.

I have a Brother Laser Printer HL-5350DN. I refill toner myself but the toner light will not go out. How do I reset it so it goes off?

There is a reset gear in the cartridge that needs to be "reset" or replaced. I've included a link to a PDF file that goes over the procedure to properly refill and reset the toner cartridge. This is a document that is used by a company that does a complete rebuild, so you probably won't need most of the information, just the part on resetting the reset gear.

Have a 2 year old brother printer HL5250DN THere are black stripes on the paper while it's printing. The printing is fine just these ugly stripes on the pages. It's worse on the legal pages than it is on...

Look in the manual and operate the cleaning cycle to clean the cartridge. If this fails, the cartridge may be getting low and require changing, but striping is usually because the cleaning cycle needs to be run. Good luck

I have brother hl5250dn laser printer . i bought a new cart. but some pages print then the toner led is blink and status led is red how to slove this problem

It could be a defective cartridge or a half fill re-fill. Here's a trick you can try. Ir you look at the end with the plug of the cartridge you will see a clear plastic piece. It looks like a lens. Place a piece of black tape over it and re install it. It will make the printer think it's a new cartridge. Steven 818-888-0006

Brother HL5250DN toner light will not go off unable to even print test page, new toner installed and still nothing. Any suggestions? I've tried turning unit off to let it reset, nothing is changing, new...

Is the printer still asking for a new toner..?

If it is the there is a gear that can be reset on the toner cartridge to tell the machine its a new toner cartridge. This is normally done by an engineer, but is quite easy to do if you know how. And I do :0

My Brother HL5250DN shows toner light on (yellow) and status light on (red) even after toner cartridge replaced with new one. Already tried reset by holding down go button. Is the printer dead?

Try this..
1: Turn off power and remove toner/drum
2: Tape the little spring loaded lever just inside the printer on the upper left hand side in the *DOWN* position! Do not replace drum yet and...
3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.
4: Turn off printer, remove tape from lever, replace drum and turn back on.
