Question about Brother HL 5250DN Laser Printer
I just replaced the toner cartridge - with an off brand from ClickInk. Supposed to be compatible. I am getting the toner, but there are light spots on the page and some sense of toner sprinkle marks. I havecleaned the wires and have wiped the cylinder thingy with a soft lint free cloth. Could it be that the new cartidge is cold (just delivered sat outside a while in frigid temps).
I think the most likely reason is not cleaning the drum before inserting. I sometimes do it manually (if you were pushing your previous toner to go the distance, the ionization fails after a while and some of the excess toner does not get ionized and thus ends up splattering on the page). After you do it manually, move the drum thingamagig (blue arrow) back and forth, see if it helps.
I've had mine out in the cold before, that didn't cause any problems. However, if you were cold when you opened the box (or if the delivery guy tossed it around), sometimes that can cause the toner to shift and spill (sucks, I know).
Also, like the previous poster, I also recommend genuine cartridges.
If you want to make them go the extra mile (like you run out too soon), you can do 2 things:
A). set your pinter to toner saver mode (esp. if you are printing things to read not turn in, etc. --- this is in the printer properties menu, second tab, "Toner Saver Mode" check "On")
B). this is from some DIY site, so proceed with caution... but I love this solution. Buy some black electrical tape and cover up the two plastic (transparent) windows on the sides of the cartridge (one is on the surface, one is slightly below the black plastic -- but it's fine to just tape the little hole in the plastic shut). The toner level is measured with a laser, apparently, and when the level is below the height of the beam, you will get a toner low message. Bad toner cartridge. Compatibility is a 4 letter word. Send it back and invest in GENUINE Brother Cart.
