How do I find or give my printer an IP address?

I have a Dell AIO 962 printer connected to a Windows XP desktop PC. I can print from a laptop on my home network, and now would like to try printing from a new MacBook, and someone said to just plug in my printer's IP address. But the printer does not seem to have one, when I go into configure.

You have your printer set to sharing (it does not have an IP addres because it does not have network capabilities).
Printer specs:;psum

To access it with your Mac, you have ot add the Mac to your network, then you can use the shared printer.
Read this to add the Mac to the network and share the printer:

Connect fuji xerox printer - mac pro computer as it was

Hi Lindsay. Was the fuji xerox printer plugged into the old modem by a blue ethernet cable ?
When you changed your modem it would have had a device inside it called a dhcp server that allocated the IP addresses to your computers automatically.
Now I suspect that the new modem has a device inside it called a DHCP server that is allocating a different range of IP addresses to your computers from waht it used to be.

Here comes the technical part
On the printer menu screen there should be a network setting option . Take a note of the IP address of the printer it will be 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x x being the unknown number. also take a note of the subnet mask . it will most likely be
next but I have no idea how to look that up on a MAC IOS system.
you may see the ip address in the printer settings properties in the MAC
you may be able to get your ISP to remotely set up your DHCP server in your router to work in the appropriate ip range to match your printer IP address and to avoid allocating the printers ip address to your computers. Then restart the computers to get new ip addresses.
If you tell them the printers IP address and Subnet mask they should be able to alter the modem's settings DHCP settings for you.

The other option is to get the DCHP IP address range of the modem and subnet mask and change the printers IP address setting and subnet mask to match the DHCP leases range by giving it a much higher number than the computers are most likely to be running on.
so if the range was to with subnet mask of then the printer would be set to and subnet mask The first three left numbers must match they are known as the network component of the ip address or it may be the zero end number is the network address so you can't allocate it to a device. or is usually the modem address.
ISP may be able to guide you how to change the setting on the printer .

I had a client that had a lot of trouble getting a tech to come out and set up their printer to an APPLE system. I was the final Tech that eventually came out and set up the printer .

Wireless Troubleshooting - What to Do For Limited Or No Connectivity on an XP...

<p>Networking allows computers to interact, or share data, between themselves. Although they became easy to use over the years, issues such as "Limited or No connectivity" on Windows machines especially still occur. It prevents the computer, laptop, or any other device running Microsoft windows system from any network connection.<br /> This would be very frustrating for a user who fails to solve the connectivity issue after several attempts. The "Limited or no connectivity" message tells the user that a problem has occur and needs troubleshooting. Below are some causes that may need looking at.<br /> <b>Physical causes and What to Do... </b><br /> <ul> <li>Network card could be faulty or malfunctioning, or the port on the card itself. Make sure lights show on the card and if they don't, replace with another one that works. <li>Check that your router or the server is turned on so that the laptop can acquire a valid IP address. <li>Double check to make sure the wireless card on the laptop is turned on. Do not assume it is on by default, do it yourself. </li></ul> <br /><b>Logical or Software causes and solutions </b><br /> <ul> <li>Many of us are online buyers. Items sold on the internet, especially used items, are not in their default settings. Previous owners do not always reset them before sale, and this causes a lot of issues and unwanted beheaviours. Below are some of the common settings found on Routers: <ul> <li>ISP user name and password. If you want to connect to the internet check with your ISP to get your own User name and password, if not ignore this step. <li>Looking at the security options, make sure: <ul> <li>MAC address Filtering is not enable. If it is, remove all the MAC addresses on the MAC address table, and enter your Laptop's network card MAC address. With MAC Filtering On, do not forget to enter the MAC addresses of all you wireless devices on to its table. <li>Wireless key settings. Disable the wireless key settings and configure it to meet your requirements. </li></ul></li></ul><br /> <li><b>A Laptop to Laptop connection</b>, please make sure the wireless settings on both laptops are the same. <br /> <li><b>Inconsistent wireless Keys</b>. The key on the laptop has to match the one configured on the router. <br /> <li><b>Drivers out of date</b>, update your wireless adapter drivers or your router firmware by checking the manufacturer web site. <br /> <li><b>Wireless not enable on the router</b>. If wireless is not enable on the router, there is no Wi-Fi signal at all. some Router would have wireless turned off by default, and it is the administrator decision to use it or not. <br /> <li><b>DHCP Server misconfiguration</b>. Make sure the DHCP (Dynamic Hosts Configuration) server is properly configured: <br /> <ul> <li>Enough IP address lease for your network devices <li>The server itself is not down </li></ul></li></ul> <b>Some simple troubleshooting methods are:</b><br /> <ul> <li>Repair the connection. On Windows, click <b><i>start</i></b> - <b><i>Control panel</i></b> and then <i>Network connections;</i> chose the right connection icon, right then select <b><i>repair</i></b>. Windows will, temporarily, disable and re-enable your network adapter to attempt a connection. <li>Reset the IP stack. Click <b><i>start</i></b> then <b><i>Run</i></b>. At the command prompt type "<b><i>command</i></b>" or cmd for short, you are then presented with the command prompt window. Type "<b>netsh int ip reset resetlog</b>", and then restart your Laptop. This applies to desktop computers as well. <li>Reset the router to its factory default. Most routers we use at home are fitted with a reset button, by pressing and hold it for few seconds will bring the router to its factory default. This method solves a lot of the issues mentioned earlier, in one go.</li></ul> <br /> <p> <br /> <p>

Google com

1) Go to printers and scanners
2) clixk on the + sign in the left corner
3) a new window appears. There should your wireless printer appear ( Bonjour)
4) add your wireless printer

If you the printer does not appear then there might be something wrong with the Macbook or the wireless printer or / and the network.

Go to app store and download IP Scanner for free
This utility gives information about wireless devices in your environment.
If the printer pops up then try to connect to the printer in Safari by using the IP address. If this does not work then try another computer and verify the settings of your Macbook.

I have canon f-80 can i plug it in to a router and give it an ip and print to wireless?

This printer does not have the interface to hook it directly to a router. You can get a USB print server for this however. Available at most computer shops or on-line.

A site that is blocked.

  • go to start>run>CMD>ENTER
  • from the command prompt type in ping
  • instead of though, type in the address that is blocked.
  • then hit ENTER
  • this will ping out to that site and give you an IP address for that site
  • open up your web browser
  • type the ip address of that website in the address bar where you usually type the address
This will allow you to see websites that are blocked by a simple dns proxy. If you have a different setup or different proxy type, let us know

My MacPro will not connect to the Dell 2400mp; no signal or recognition; what do I need to do?

No signal? Do you mean it will not connect to your wireless?

If you mean you are trying to connect to a Windows XP PC then you need to connect to the computer and mount the share.

Go to top of screen there will be a drop down that says go, connect to server. If the computer is in the list connect to it if not then you have to type the address of the pc, eg. smb://computernamehere or you can use the ip then hit connect. You will need to input the name of the workgroup and the user name and password of that machine you are joining. Select the share name and hit okay, you should see the shortcut on your desktop.

I'm at work and I would like to have my macbook run the internet through my firewall. I have a live ethernet cable currently hooked up to my desktop PC- but when I plug it in to my Macbook, it does not...

You probably have a static IP address on you PC desktop.
You can find what the IP is on the PC,by clicking on run then type cmd. When the DOS window opens, type ipconfig . It will give you the IP, Subnet mask, and the Gateway addresses. then you can set up your Mac with that staic IP.
