check the plug on the monitor and check the other side where you plug the monitor into the computer. It sounds like your monitor cannot detect any signal. If the plug is ok then try to hook up a different monitor.
Do you have a video card in the computer or is it built in the motherboard?
If you have a video card and there is no display on another monitor you will have to look into getting a video card for the computer. It is not that un-common for video adaptors to go out but that is when it is nice to have a desktop computer. You can normally just put another one in.

Should have asked this first but what provoked this probelem?

How to Tell If A Computer Monitor Is Going Bad
Computer monitors are designed to work properly for years.
Whether it's from a defective part or power surge, they go bad eventually, and you'll probably know it when it happens.
Look for vertical or horizontal lines across your monitor screen that shouldn't be there.
Time how long it takes for your computer monitor to come out of sleep mode. It shouldn't take more than 5 or 10 seconds for the screen to be fully operational when taken out of sleep mode or turned on after being turned off. If the screen is not operating as quickly as it should, it could be a sign it's getting old.

Hp l2208w going sleep

Hi
I am sorry that the Monitor is going to sleep mode. Are you experiencing the same issue with different Tower or CPU? Turn OFF the monitor and power cycle it after a minute and check if the same issue persists. Also, reinstall the Video Driver.

Monitor wont come out of sleep mode

One possiblility will be the failing power supply due to bad caps (leaking/bulging tops). You can take a look inside first before making the decison to buy a new one or not.

This monitor series( HP Compaq WF1907) seem to have a inherent problem with the sleep mode control circuit. You should take this unit into the service center for repair. Hope this helps.

Gateway FHD2400 24inch monitor HELP PLEASE!

well it's not the computer going to sleep but the monitor is (sort of) because your computer is telling to. it has to do with the Power Options (title dependent on OS - this is what it's called in Vista)

Go to Control Panel>>Power Options - on the left hand column click Choose when to turn off the display - I'm guessing you are set to 15 or 20 minutes for the Turn off the display dropdown - change it to something longer to satisfy your needs (Never is an option).

If you're not running Vista write back - it's slightly different but similar path.

Cheers.

Works when it wants to then turns whie with grey line in it

Hi

If only the monitor is going to sleep, then it could be a problem with the connection from the monitor to the computer or with the cable.

If the computer goes to sleep and if you are not able to wake it from sleep then check the sleep mode settings and also the power management settings for the keyboard and mouse.
You may also do a system restore if you are not able to wake the computer from sleep.

Going to sleep

(if you have an orange light) Turn off your computer and unplug all of your devices, printer, scanner etc... Only your monitor, mouse, keybord and monitor should be connected. Now turn on your computer. It should work now. You can attach your other devices if you are successful.
