My hp laptop shows "windows

This is a wireless network type driver that appears with Vista. Possibly downloaded as part of a windows update. Most direct solution, is to go to HP website, download the correct wireless drivers for the card in your laptop.

Uninstall the wireless network drivers currently installed ( not the lan ethernet ones, just the wireless ones) and reinstall the ones you just downloaded.

I also found this ( vistaheads website )

"Just delete the profile Windows has for your wifi and reconnect. On Vista go to Network &
Sharing / Manage Wireless Networks, click on "your" wifi and then click
Remove. When you reconnect you'll have to authenticate again but it
should be fine afterwards."

Which is another method

I can not figure out how to get the computer to make a wireless connection.

Add the Home SSID to the Preferred Network List After you set the SSID on your home gateway, you may need to add it to your preferred network list if Windows XP Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled. (Although automatic configuration is nice to have, your IT department may have disabled it on your laptop in order to meet their needs. If they have, you'll need to use the tool provided by your laptop or wireless manufacturer to manually configure wireless settings.) To manually add your home wireless network to the list of preferred networks when Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled, follow these steps:
• In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
• Right-click the Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
• On the Wireless Networks tab, shown in Figure 3, click Add.

• In the Wireless network properties dialog box, shown in Figure 4, enter the SSID you configured for your wireless gateway (ExampleHome_g in this example.)

Note: Figure 4 assumes you've added the Windows WPA Client Update. If you haven't downloaded and installed it, you probably should. For more on the WPA Client Update, see Overview of the WPA Wireless Security Update in Window XP.
• Fill in the rest of the fields, including the necessary authentication and encryption information based on the configuration of your wireless gateway.
• Click OK and your home network will be added to the list of preferred networks.
Now, whenever you're at home, your work laptop should automatically see your home wireless network and connect to it.

I just bought ma acer e725 and want to know how to switch on my wifi

Please press on the Fn+F2 to activate your wireless network. There should be an icon which says Wireless Network Connection, double click on it. The laptop should identify all of the wireless network in your vicinity. You will then be able to choose from the list the strongest connection between your laptop and wireless network.

Please note that if you are trying to connect to wireless network, you may need to insert a key access which you may receive from the administrator of that network. A lot of the networks do not require such pass, but some, the more secured do.
