Hi Claire,
You are having fun with your little Fiat.... Not !
Yes.. it is recommended that you run your classic Fiat engine on leaded fuel, as this give lubrication to the valves and stems on the engine cylinder head.
If you have been running the car for more than a tank or two of unleaded fuel, you will start giving wear to the valves and guides.
I recommend you charge up your battery and see if you can get it running again.
There is an additive you can put in to the fuel tank, to make your fuel compatible with your engine, available a Halfords.

I hope I have been of help.
Notify me if you have any further questions that you need answering.

Good Luck !

John.

NOT SURE WHY YOU HAVE oil in the water but i would suspect head gasket but these motors do have a oil cooler i think so check this out ,now first thing after that to do is block off the EGR valve ,make a coca cola can gasket to seal it off completely ,then this particle exhaust thing remove it and fit another back box any back box you can bodge on and then see what happens ,these so called anti polution things are a waste of time on a diesel ,Would help if knew what year a 58 reg was because to me its a 1958 for all i know and A reg is a 1963 ,now that was when they made real cars like a humber hawk and wolsley .These fiats are not bad little jam jars and to me a lot better than these american things with monster engines ,wonder what they would do if they had to pay europeon fuel prices???

Probably it is the fuel pump, make a test take out the fuel hose which goes to the fuel rail, then turn the engine to see if fuel comes out sufficiently, then you can know what step to move.

Wrong fuel in car

Hi, My name is Tom and I need to get some info on your car. Make, year, engine type, how long it has been stored, was there any fuel in the car from before, was the old fuel drained, does the engine call for the good old leaded type? What is it that you think that you may have ruined? Tom.

Fiat punto

The fuel tank has lines that go out of it for different jobs. One of this plastic lines helps the gas fumes to breathe out in to the atmosphere throu a filter, so if this line is clogged for some reason no air can get out when you pump the gas in, so it spills it out. Locate this line and replace or unclogge it and hopefully this will cure you problem
