Instructins on how to install rheem hot water tank pilot tube assembly.

Company sent replacement part and said there would also be instructions on how to install. No instructions were sent. I can probably figure it out but would be nice to see a diagram or some form of instruction.

Air in system. Make sure there is no sources of ignition and loosen the supply line at the heater and purge all air. Mske sure your source valve is open. then turn off yje heater after tightening the line. Let sit in off position for 15 minutes. Then turn therm knob to on slowly and then over to pilot, depress pilot button and hold a ffew seconds. Pilot should light. If so, hold for a few and then release and turn ti on position. Good Luck.

SOURCE: I have a Rheem 50 gal. natural gas water heater

The most common reason a pilot light will not stay lit is a bad thermocouple. How old is the water heater? If the pilot light will light, but then go out when you release the safety button, that is a sure sign the thermocouple is bad. You can buy a replacement thermocouple at your local home improvement store. There is a small chance that the control valve has gone bad, but that is highly unlikely.

How to Change the Gas Valve and Thermostat on a Hot Water Heater

<p>If you are having<b> trouble with the temperatures</b> of your <b>gas hot water heater</b> fluctuating too much, or after <b>changing the thermocouple</b> of your gas <b>hot water heater</b> then you may need to change the complete <b>gas valve and thermostat assembly</b>. Also if you have changed the <b>thermocouple</b> and the pilot still will not stay lit, then the gas valve could be bad or the <b>ECO (Emergency Cutout)</b> may have activated and is open. This is a onetime device and cannot be replaced.<br /> <p><br /> <p>These instructions are for the older style <b>gas valve and thermostat combination</b>. These commonly have a large red knob that adjusts the temperature of the water. Also note that the burner tube nut for <b>natural gas</b> is right hand thread, but if you have <b>LP or propane gas</b> the burner tube nut is left hand thread.<br /> <p><br /> <p>The newer <b>gas valve thermostat combinations</b> that have come out recently are similar, but they have a well in the tank that the sensor slides into. The assembly is held fast with a set screw. With this type of <b>gas valve and thermostat unit </b>the tank does not need to be drained, but most of the rest of the change out is similar.<br /><br />To change a <b>gas hot water heater thermostat</b> you will need to first buy a new gas valve for your <b>hot water heater</b>. The <b>gas valve</b> and the <b>thermostat</b> are integrated into one unit.<br /><br />To <b>replace the thermostat on a gas hot water heater</b> you must follow these procedures....<br /><br />1. Turn off the incoming water and<b> drain the hot water heater</b>.<br /><br />2. Remove the <b>pilot tube</b>, the <b>burner gas tube</b> and the thermocouple from the gas valve. Turn off the <b>gas line</b> and remove from the gas valve.<br /><br />3. Get a <b>pump pliers</b> or a<b> wrench</b> in behind the gas valve and turn the whole assembly CCW to remove it from the tank.<br /><br />4. After applying pipe dope or tape to the new gas valve threads, turn the new gas valve into the tank by turning in a CW direction. Be careful not to damage the small wires to the <b>ECO</b>. They are the little red wires on the back. If you break them the assembly is irreparably damaged.<br /><br />5. Reinstall the gas line, thermocouple, burner tube, and the pilot tube to the gas valve.<br /><br />6. Fill tank with water. Make sure to open a <b>hot water faucet</b> and <b>purge all air from the tank.<br /><br /></b>7. <b>Check for leaks</b> where the gas line hooks up with soapy water.<br /><br />8. Relight pilot light and check operation.<br /><br />9. Set the new temperature setting to a medium setting and then adjust the temperature to your liking from there and adequate time for heating completely<br /> <p>

It could be that the gap for the igniter is too big Try lighting it manually There should not be that much air in the line .

I have a 650 delta thermostatic gas combination control on a Rheem hot water heater that won't turn to to the proper pilot or off position to relight it. We have looked everywhere for trouble shootin

Jennifer, the instructions posted by Rheems on the heater are wrong. You must first rotate the dial clockwise, use force (in our our case) to get the pilot to its position. The folks at Rheems are nuts not to check their instructions before printing them and plastering them on their hot water tanks. Disgraceful, period.

Can I replace the igniter on my rheem water heater RHLP

1) Rheem does not post service manuals for their brands of tankless, or tank-type water heater:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
Replace the thing:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html#install

2) Probably you can call Rheem and give model and serial number and they will send part.
However, based on responses at fixya, Rheem most likely will not send instructions.
Rheem does not want customers repairing gas appliances.
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Exploded-house3.jpg

3) Go to Bosch website, and track down their service bulletins for possible assistance

Believe I need to buy a Rheem Water Heater Thermocouple. Where do I find them?

If thermocouple is from ordinary tank-type water heater, then it is a generic part with different lengths 15" 17" 21" 24" 30" available at hardware of home center.
I suggest reading manual for installation information, advisories, and required maintenance.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-Ruud-water-heater-parts-guide.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html#clean

There are good utube videos on replacing thermocouple.
Tip of thermocouple has to be positioned in the pilot flame.
The heat on tip of thermocouple causes millivolts of electric current that travel back to the gas control valve and the electrical signal causes gas control valve to keep gas flowing down the pilot tube to the pilot light.
If pilot light blows out or if pilot tube is clogged and needs to be cleaned, or if gas valve has gone bad, then tip of thermocouple cools down and electric signal back to gas control valve causes gas control valve to shut off gas going to pilot.

When attaching thermocouple to gas control valve, it is finger tightened.
Be careful and do not cross-thread thermocouple. Just use your fingers to start the nut.
Finger-tighten thermocouple and then add 1/4 turn using small wrench.
The end of thermocouple has a small piece of insulation that isolates the electric current from body of gas control valve. If thermocouple is overtightened, the insulation is crushed, and electrical current millivolts short out and no signal reaches gas control valve, so gas control valve keeps gas turned off to pilot tube.

If this is a tankless water heater, then open following link with troubleshooting resources and contact information for Rheem.

I have a Rheem PG50T9A gas hot water heater. We had hot water this morning. When I came home the pilot light was out and won't stay lit. Any ideas?

Hopefully just the thermocouple. The thermocouple is the small rod right next to the pilot light. The flame on the pilot heats up the thermocouple and keeps the gas valve on. You can replace it yourself. The thermocouple will be connect by a small nut on the underneath side of the valve, and you will have to pull the thermocouple out of the pilot assembly. Not an expensive part, you can get it at any hardware store. Hope this helps you .

Cannot light pilot on 4 year old heater rheem tells me part not available in supply house is this right part i need isvile that is broken below pilot light

I can't tell if you have tankless or tank heater.
Rheem has gone big into tankless the last few years and maybe first models don't have parts any more.

Even so, Rheen probably sells the whole burner assembly.
Most plumbers prefer to replace whole assembly so they're not doing a call-back next month.
Check with Rheem for whole assembly.

Another option is to roll the Rheem heater out of the way and install generic brand from Ace, Home Depot, Sears, or Lowes. Read manual cover to cover to prevent failure. Keep dust, lint and chemicals out of same room. Loosen anode rod before installing. Connect ground wire jumper to hot and cold pipes.
http://waterheatertimer.org/9-ways-to-save-with-water-heater.html
Fix the Rheem when parts become available, or use it as tempering tank to passively preheat incoming cold water, or set tank in wood box with glass cover and make passive solar tank.

I have a Rheem 40 gal. tank that is leaking water front the top where the vent stack is. It is pouring out. Can it be repaired?

A leaking water heater cannot be repaired, assuming it's the tank leaking and not nearby water pipe.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-leaking.html

First thing is to protect your property from catastrophic tank failure where tank ruptures and water runs until it is shut off:
Tanks are under pressure when they are hot.
Close cold water shut-off located above tank.
Turn control knob to 'pilot' so pilot is lit but burner will not turn on.
Open hot side on tub for few moments to relieve tank pressure.

Now your property is safe.
You need a new water heater.
In mean time, gas water heater makes 41 gallons hot water per hour.
Shower used 5-9 gallons hot water.
Bath uses 10-15 gallons hot water.
You can turn on water heater for short stretches and limp by until you get a new heater.

How does rhe hot and cold water hook up on a 71-40d which is which top and bottom

Tanks are marked with Hot and Cold.
1) If water connections are on top of tank, look for red marking or word HOT that shows where hot water pipe connects. Look for blue marking or word COLD that shows cold water connection.
2) If water connections are on side of tank, cold water connects to bottom one, and hot connects to top.

3) If hot and cold are reversed, the tank will not work.
Pipes on top of tank: cold water enters tank and is sent to bottom of tank in a long tube called the dip tube. This means the cold is on the bottom since hot water rises to the top. The hot water exits top of tank.
Pipes on side of tank: You want cold water to enter bottom, so hot water naturally rises to the top outlet.
