M1522 Locks Up Periodically

Locks up (maybe after long idle) and no response to keys. Computer says it is not ready. Have to power cycle it to get it working again. Otherwise, it works great!

Mine had just started doing this. Sometimes it gets stuck while recycling / rebooting.

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2009

Same here, locks up, can't printer fax or nothing until power is turned on/off

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2009

Machine freezes after long idle. After turning off then on, or even unpluging, it remains frozen.

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2009

I shut down after freeze and then a blinking yellow exclamation mark appears under the control panel. Turn it off again and it's okay for a while.

I had exactly the same problem. Downloaded new firmware and installed it to the printer. Freezeing seems to be gone.

There are many threads on the 'net about this issue. Many people find that even after updating the firmware they still have the problem. HP has issues a service bulletin on this model which means if it's not over 2 years old or so you can get the machine replaced or repaired by them or one of their service centres at no change.

However, if your unit is too old you can remove the left side (screw and hook at back and one hook on the bottom), remove the "formatter" (main) board, preheat an oven to 375F, remove all the stickers and tape from the board and bake it for 10 minutes. Some people recommend removing the battery that is soldered on the board before baking but others say you don't have to. I personally would recommend removing it. Make sure you put it back on the in the correct polarity. I've heard from various sites that there is a 90% success rate of solving this problem using this method. Let the board cool well after removing it from the oven.

My 2006 lincoln navigator windows, mirror or door locks won't work

I would guess the problem would be located with the drivers door harness. All of these items are controlled from the same place, remove door panel and check harness connectors for tightness and water damage.

My M1522 turns off after printing once. It has

it could be a power failure on the formatter board

Try doing a hard or reset or nvram:
1. Turn the printer off
2. Hold down the down arrow and the cancel button
3. Reboot the printer while holding the buttons and hold until permanent storage is displayed. Let go of the buttons and wait for the ready message on the display.

if this does not work contact hp, 1800-334-5144. If within 2 years from the purchase date ask for a case number to have the printer serviced under a service note.

Trying to program a remote, but it doesn't work.  i followed the instructions turned the key from off to on 8 times and left it at on, but the locks did nothing. can you help?

WHAT FOLLOWS IS THE CORRECT PROCEDURE, REMEMBER YOU MUST COMPLETE THE 8 KEY CYCLES IN LESS THAN 10 SECONDS, IF YOU DO IT RIGHT THE POWER LOCKS WILL GO UP AND DOWN TO INDICATE IT IS READY FOR PROGRAMMING.

1. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in
RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode.

2. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will cycle
to confirm programming.

3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks will
cycle again to confirm programming.

4. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

CAr idles fast - sucks up gas and will shut off periodically.

If it has a high idle I would say that the iac (idle air control) valve is bad and needs replaced. It should be located on the throttle body.
